Mech-Hisui / Punishing with C-Mech Hisui
« on: August 26, 2009, 02:43:32 PM »
Whenever I end my air BnB with air throw, the opponent with always tech back.  That's fine with me since it resets the keep away game, but I'd still like to punish it somehow if I can.  If I air throw when I'm near a corner, it seems that I'm able to use 623B to punish a back tech.  Anyone have anything to add to this?

Akiha's Tea Room / Buying the right monitor? (for no lag)
« on: February 13, 2008, 01:01:29 AM »
I'm buying a new PC monitor.  I know that CRTs are desired since they have no lag, which offers the closest arcade experience possible.  But I'm really not down for having a fat monitor in my room, so I'm definitely going LCD.  Question is, are there any monitors that come close to CRT speed?  What price range am I looking at?  Are there any specs and/or features I should I paying attention to when shopping for the monitor?

Mech-Hisui / Safe HEAT setups?
« on: February 05, 2008, 01:24:59 AM »
I've got a bad habit.  I usually Heat when I really need to.  That makes me pretty predictable.  And considering Mech-Hisui's got the lifebar that makes it more worth it to Heat at higher lifebar percent, I should be doing Heats earlier in the matches, not later.

Other than Heating after 2C (which is untechable, I think)... what are some other safe Heat setups?

Here's a random thought.  Can I Heat an opponent that's blocking Maid Rush activated by MAX?  It's ridiculous, but if he's at the last grain of health... then hey, it's worth it : p

Other Games / Wii Fighting Stick
« on: January 28, 2008, 12:00:31 PM »
Since my arcade stick was stolen at the last con and I've just bought a new Wii, should I buy the Wii HORI Fighting Stick?  It's only $50+ bucks (although I read there's supposed to be a price drop to $35).  Is there a Wii -> PS2 and/or USB converter in existence?

Ciel's Tech Support / Can I run Melty Blood in Linux?
« on: November 02, 2007, 02:38:10 AM »
I've reformatted my laptop with Ubuntu 7.10.  Is there an easy way to get Melty Blood to work with Linux?  I've heard there's applications that run Windows Games in Linux called Wine and Cedega, but I only know the name.  Is it pretty easy to get done, or is there some coding I need to do?

I'm a complete novice to Linux.  If anything, if there's a Linux expert here, I'd love to chat with ya using AIM or whatever to ask random questions.

Mech-Hisui / Tech Punishing with Mech-HISUI
« on: September 27, 2007, 10:16:43 AM »
After mid-screen air throw:

If they tech...

Forward:
2a - your best choice.. combo away
22a - not worth it.  can't follow up
22c - same as 22a

Neutral:
2b - best choice.  leads to combo, mashable
236a - not worth it
623c - if you screw up the timing, it's safe on block.  use if you're scared, I guess... ?
421a - you'd might as well use 2b... but if they jump, you'll either get them or they'll air block it (in which it is safe on block)
421c - 2sexy !!  if you got the meter and you just know DO EET

Back:
214a - only option.

None:
Opponent is completely safe - there are no OTG combos for Mech-HISUI... after an air throw, of course.  haven't experimented enough to find the best OTG hits after random unteched stuff, but I'm just doing 2b-> 2c right now

Air throw against the corner:

they better stay down.  If they tech away, all the tricks you can use on a neutral mid-screen tech will work.  they don't bounce away far enough and your 2b will reach them.  If they tech neutral, they'll be close enough to punish with 2a.

Air throw with YOU in the corner:

them teching away means they tech into the corner.  they'll be in range for 2b.  if they try to tech out, they're in 2a range.  don't forget that your air throw switches positions with your opponent.  if you're not used to it, it's pretty disorienting - for your opponent AND you.

----

Kind of seems like the smartest thing to do as a Mech-HISUI player is to wait and use 2a or 2b.  if they're dumb enough to tech towards you, it's not hard to hit 2a even if your reflexes suck.  as for training your reflexes for 2b, that will be harder.  but yeah, considering Mech-HISUI doesn't have the most intense oki game, the opponent is probably going to stay down more often than not.

feel free to agree / disagree.  this was mostly for my personal notes, but I figured I'd post it and get feedback or something.

Kohaku's Magical Garage / Mech Hisui 236A (Laser) vs. Nero 236A (Crow)
« on: September 07, 2007, 11:57:43 PM »
Quick question.  Can someone give me the frame data on how fast these specials come out, and how long the recovery is?  Or are there frames for the travel time?  Jaxx and I get into Laser vs. Crow shootouts quite a bit, so I'd like some hard data.

Akiha's Tea Room / にほんご を わかりますか
« on: July 06, 2007, 01:36:38 PM »
I suck at Japanese.  So you dudes who are good with the language, please help me.  おねがいします。

In a profile I use somewhere else, I'm adding a few Japanese lines to look for someone to practice Japanese with.  Here's what I have so far:

にほんご を わかりますか
(Do you understand Japanese?)

いっしょ に べんきょう しましょう!
(Let's study it together!)

Should I end with shimashou or shimasu?  I think it's shimashou, because it's indicating 'together'.  But I think "issho ni" already suggests that.  Also, should I add a sentence between these two to make it more smooth?  I'm thinking I should add something like "I'm still learning it."  Basically, I need a sentence that lets the reader know that I'm not a pro at Japanese - that I'm still learning.

Akiha's Tea Room / What is in Aoko's briefcase?
« on: June 20, 2007, 04:08:48 AM »
I was talking about how it would be awesome if Aoko got all aggressive and raped Shiki or something, then Tare on IRC told me that Aoko's case is actually a Reality Marble of little boys that she collects.  He wasn't sure if the info was correct, but I think he mentioned hearing it somewhere on Beast's Lair.  Anyone well-versed in the Tsukihime universe able to explain or debunk this?

Mech-Hisui / Mech-Hisui vs. Aoko
« on: June 10, 2007, 05:52:20 AM »
I watched a Mech Hisui player in a video for Tougeki qualifiers and now I'm convinced that Mech-Hisui has a terrible match-up vs. Aoko.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4LvX0P2BN8

To be fair, we know that JeffreyManson is arguably the best Aoko player in the world, but still!  This poor Mech Hisui player was slaughtered.  The only way he managed to get out of that corner pressure was with the shield bunker.  And he only managed to get good damage on Aoko with crossbow, which got predictable.  I feel like Mech Hisui has limited options vs. Aoko.

Of course, it may be that this Mech Hisui player was simply outplayed, and JeffreyManson would have beat him no matter who he used.  I don't know the kanji for this Mech Hisui player, so I dunno if he's a known name or not.  But from another other video of this Mech Hisui player fighting a Kouma... I would guess that he's not.  Nothing in the other video really stood out.

Maybe I'm completely wrong.  I mean, this is just one example where Mech Hisui gets seriously owned by Aoko.  And I shouldn't be making judgments from just one video.  But I dunno, she got beat so bad that it was discouraging.  What could Mech-Hisui have done to not get killed?

I asked Sp00ky general Mech-Hisui vs. Aoko questions at WT4, but I already forgot what he said.  I asked him so many random questions that I couldn't process all of the answers to them.  But yeah.  I'm also curious for Zar and XAQ's opinions on this!

Copy and pasted from /a/nime.

Shinji's mind was unable to understand the difference between shape (God's creation and the outer appearance and other's perception) and image (one's own perception); the ideas that he was taught and given to him by society were simply seen as the truth without giving that truth an image. Since Shinji saw truth as this, he was unable to form his own image and only saw himself as other saw him, thus he was dependent on the praise of other and could not bear the consequence of failure.

He began to see that his image was tainted by the ideas of other and Shinji's shape. He then begin to realize that he is capable of having subjective thinking and view the world in a slightly skewed image. After realizing this, he sees that the World around him is not cruel and bad, but that is due to viewing the World in that manner; if Shinji imagined his World in a slightly different manner, then his image would become much more positive and become more optimistic of his life.

The hatred that Shinji had for himself (created from his shape) was the reason that he had no image of reality; he needed to learn that ideas taught to him are only one person's perception of truth and is not absolute truth. In order to overcome that and begin to form his own image of truth, Shinji needed to realize this. With the help of the image of the others close to Shinji, he saw that the truth of the World is not grand and the rule of One, but rather an almost insignificant view of reality. Once Shinji saw this, he realized that the image of others should only be used to help form the image of self and not define it. Coming to this epiphany, he is able to shatter the ideas of his mind created by others, and gave Shinji the will to form his own image and path and life.

------

I posted this because I actually LIKED the TV ending of the series.  Shinji's teenage angst is what really drew me to the series.  No, really.  The fighting angels in giant mecha part was just a treat.  So with TV Ep. 26, Shinji found self-worth in himself and that was the resolution to his angst.  Which is why I liked Evangelion.

Mech-Hisui / Crossup options after a throw?
« on: May 21, 2007, 10:00:00 PM »
So far, I've been trying:
- dash toward them, jump straight up.  on landing, I'll end up behind them.  or I can hold back on the descent and land in front of them.
- jump towards them, jump straight up.  depending on when I second jump, I can influence the motion of the descent.
- instant A-jetpack and land in front or behind them
- IAD so they think you're going behind them, then B-jetpack and land in front of them.  (saw this on in a game dial video)

what else can I do?

Akiha's Tea Room / HELP ME decide on cosplay for AX.
« on: May 04, 2007, 12:21:52 AM »

I'm 5'4". 135 pounds.

You'd think as a short Asian guy, I could pull off lots of cosplay. This is not true. Most anime characters are super tall with blonde hair.. there are only a handful of short, black-haired guys.

I have no talent in sewing, but I'm willing to spend some bucks on cosplay. I'll probably buy off eBay. I'm also willing to buy a wig.

Anyway, I'm taking all recommendations. I'm mostly interested in short characters - not gonna cosplay a Sephiroth-height character when every Aeris cosplayer is gonna be taller than me -.-  Here are my ideas so far:

Sena - Eyeshield 21
Van - Escaflowne
Sai - Naruto
Hitsugaya - Bleach
El Blaze - Virtua Fighter 5 (My body is the ULTIMATE... weapon.)
Hokutomaru - Mark of the Wolves
Shizumaru - Samurai Shodown
Shimon - Gurren Lagann

I'm not scrawny.  But I'm not super ripped.  HOWEVER, I have been working out from time to time, and I've been working out more often.  So I won't look bad in a cosplay with tight clothes, or shirtless/open shirt.  In fact, I'm gonna say I'd love to do a sexy cosplay.  I don't mind gettin' some attention from the honeys heh heh heh~

Or I can do a crossplay of Eileen.

HEEEECK YEAH

Akiha's Tea Room / Show me yr stick (hurr hurr)
« on: April 11, 2007, 06:06:54 PM »

Semitsu stick, semitsu buttons.  Custom-made by CigarBob in Mesa, Arizona.

The black buttons that go deep are start and select.

I can switch the stick from USB <-> PS2.  You can sort of see the connector-thingy on the top.

Melty Blood Auditorium / The Arcade Standard: Sticks and Buttons
« on: April 02, 2007, 05:12:00 PM »
I've made a mention of this more than a few times over IRC, but I'm gonna ask a more precise question this time.  What is the arcade standard, when it comes for sticks and buttons for Melty Blood: Act Cadenza?  Is there one?  Or does every Japanese arcade use different sticks and buttons for it?  If I were going to SBO for Melty Blood, what sort of sticks and buttons would they have on those machines in the ring?  I'm gonna guess they're going Sanwa for both.. but it is possible to be precise and find out if there's a specific type of Sanwa button?

I'm currently on a Semitsu stick and buttons.  Love the stick, but the buttons are too sensitive.  When I hit AD for a grab, the A will come out 1 frame before AD and I'll end up doing a punch instead.  This really screws me up.  I think some dude said Semitsu originally made buttons for shoot'em ups, so maybe that's why they're too sensitive for fighting games.  I'd like to replace my stuff with whatever the Japanese are playing on.  Then I'll have no more excuses.
