So since the closest thing to a St. Louis thread is this here Chicago thread, I just wanted to ask, any of you guys going to UFGT8? Don't know if it'd be worth it to go over there since I really don't know how the scene is out here in the Midwest. (Also, I don't play any of the games that actually have tournaments at UFGT)

Being in NJ has definitely spoiled me with several players attending school 45 minutes from my house.

You're right about Red Arcueid. "Arc" should be Arcueid, and Archetype Earth is listed as "Hime".

Someone else should do the list though, since I've seen different notations on Youtube videos and such.

Just watched the 2nd episode and outside of you being sick, internet issues, etc, I think you did a pretty good job. You did a good job explaining pressure on a basic level, which I'm sure is no easy feat, especially since you're catering to beginners at the moment. Yeah, it was a bit long-winded, but I think it's also good that you took your time as some people just need more time for things to sink in than others.

Maybe I missed it (or my memory just sucks, which is just as likely) but did you go over mixups? Just explaining overheads and how jump-ins need to be blocked can be useful to know if the beginners don't understand how they can put these types of moves in their blockstrings. Also, if possible, maybe mention some characters with feints, command runs, command grabs, and other things that they could use in their pressure. Oh, and following up on a raw air throw, if that wasn't already covered, that shouldn't be too difficult to introduce.

I think you said you plan on starting match analysis next time, but I suggest going over some intermediate (advanced?) concepts if you're done with the basic stuff. Fuzzy guard, option selects, and other high level concepts that might be commonly mentioned around here. Later on when you do match analysis, maybe you can explain how each character is generally played BEFORE the actual analysis, so that way newer players know what they are looking at. Since there are a lot of characters I don't think anyone expects you to cover every single character's playstyle, but an introduction would be nice when you feature them in a match video.

And yes, please get someone to help you demonstrate some of these concepts.

New player here.

Would you guys recommend C-Ciel as a good starter character?
Also any tips on what I should be focusing on in training mode?

I also started using C-Ciel as a beginner character, and I feel like she was definitely an approachable character to use.

Some other things that might be useful to know:

-Don't be afraid to use EX Hiero (236C) but don't abuse it (like I do). It's very punishable.
-She's a jack of all trades, so don't expect her to have amazing pressure, mixups, etc, but she is versatile.
-I would also recommend not using 236B~C (the aerial command grab, not sure if I did the notation correctly)

I'm still learning myself, so anyone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I'm trying to figure out what blockstrings I can use safely against respecting opponents. I'll be watching videos to try to catch some things on my own, but some general tips would be much appreciated.

Greetings! I am Odda C.

I've had an interest in Melty for quite awhile now, and now I'm really getting my chance thanks to the PC version of AACC. I am a life long fighting game player, with sizable experience in both, 2D and 3D fighters, though my interest in playing at the competitive level (or alternatively, actually getting GOOD at them). I consider myself to be very scrubby at the moment. Bear in mind that I'm also an impatient, neurotic perfectionist, so yeah...

I'm finding Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code to be a really fun, honest game with an interesting system; in fact, I may or may not have already logged more time into it than SSFIVAE, and the PC version of that game has been out for months. With this, combined with all the hype tournament footage I've seen, I've decided I need to learn this game, and connect with its community, hence why I'm here.

Currently maining C-Akiha, having no idea whether or not she's a character a total rookie should be playing. She... clicks with me. That said, I'm fully open to other characters and will be trying them when I inevitably get curious. She's the best character in the game though, seriously. Then again, I have a thing for elegant rich chicks with flat-chests, so bias. :p

If anyone is curious, yes I am Type Moon fan. In fact, AACC has given me a Tsukihime bug.

I look forward to speaking with you all, and contributing what I can.

Welcome to Melty Bread. I see you're a Touhou fan as well. You should use whichever character you want, though I don't know where C-Akiha falls on the difficulty scale... anyway, enjoy your stay.

I was the Ciel that played for like an hour or two on Saturday. I had my setup on Sunday but they got rid of all the tables and I heard they were removing any non-tourney setups from the rooms, plus I had to leave really early.

8
i heard ehrik and jimmy want it and that's just 2 to start off with lol

*raises hand*

I literally yelled "NO!" once I saw that it was removed, lol. I just need to figure out what color shirt I want and I'm ordering one.

9
Just booked my room and registered on the NEC site. Anything else I need to do to?

Also, I might be able to bring my CRT in. I just need to make sure it still works since last year.

Tournament Results / Re: Knight Slash 3 Results

RzO: Good job running the tournament, definitely went smoother than Knight Slash 1

Roku: Stop facing me in winner's bracket please, kay thanks

Tsnow: Great seeing you again, you need to come by Rutgers more often when you get a chance. I'm checking if I can go to NEC

505: Too bad we didn't have any matches, but hopefully it's not another 5+ months until we meet again

LivingShadow: Good games, hope I was able to give you some good Ciel experience

wyvernLORD: I enjoyed playing your Arc, would have done more springtime matches but I had to go play a bad game

ehrik: Thanks a lot for the Ciel advice, hope I can try them out against actual people soon

LK: Thanks for the matches. I haven't felt so free since facing Tonberry

Completely Relevant.

Aww yeah, Fire Emblem animations.

Reminds me of stuff like this from the SNES games. Can't find the exact video I wanted, but this will do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHcV8yfDGxM&feature=related

Watched the first and last round of the H-VSion vs. C-Warc set, the drawn lines really help when you explain the reasoning behind each movement. Also, considering I'm not familiar with either character, but I will be facing more of them in the near future, I really liked how you explained why they use certain moves in certain situations. I actually saw this set a few days ago, but it definitely makes more sense after watching this. I'll have to get to watching the rest of the episode later this week.

I have to check back if you've done an analysis on C-Ciel in a previous episode, but if you haven't, consider that my request.

Also, I chuckled at "Oh, now he's just trolling."

Okay I can probably host some people so long as the number isn't larger than like 4 people and everyone follows like 2 simple rules:

1. Reasonable sound levels. We can yell but nothing past that; Don't break anything etc.

2. We only hang out downstairs and stay fairly out of sight. It's pretty easy to do this as my gaming room and guest bathroom are literally at the back end of the house, but i felt i should say this anyway.

My parents are fairly nice but are still kinda anxious to this kind of thing so if anyone who stays over can keep their cool I can do this again. I'll ask later today just to confirm but I need to know for sure people are going to stay and exactly who.

Put me down on that list sir & that's a good question cause I'm leaving work around 3:00 PM Friday & should be at Dunellen around 5:00 - 5:30 P.M. which leads to my other question, will anyone be there around that time for casuals/warm-ups.

I think I'll be the first one there, leaving work at around 3:30 and I can probably get there by around 4. I don't have a set up though, but if there's one then I'd be glad to play casuals.

16
Definitely interested in this. Hopefully I won't have extra work that day or something.

Also, anyone know how to get there from Bridgewater? Never actually been to 8 on the break before, so I dunno if it's one of those hard to find, hard to park places.

Hopefully I'll be around to see this live on Sunday, but if not, definitely looking forward to the Youtube version.

Also, I'm glad I was able to witness Roku getting 'em.

Hey guys I hopefully will be able to find a spot on rutgers to run weeklies/bi-weeklies, so if i find a suitable spot, come on out; I'll keep you all posted.

Here's hoping it's on a weekend or Friday night... can't make it to the UGS meetings because they start by the time I usually get ready to sleep.

Couldn't make it to the last one and had to leave early on the first one, so here's hoping this time's different.

Personally, the 6th would probably work better for me, as I'm likely going to be busy on the 30th.

20
Trying to see if I can go to this. Anyone have an idea of how long the Melty tourney will last?

22
Still wish I was able to come by on Saturday when more people were actually there, lol.  Still, it was fun playing Melty and learning SSF4 for a few hours.

Looking forward to seeing videos if there are any posted.

Good games yesterday, everyone. Glad to see that Alex has finally changed his name, lol.

Also, I'm hoping this won't be the last time I see you guys, but a lot of things are up in the air right now with my upcoming job and all. Otherwise, I'd be upset to miss any more IHOP adventures.

Okay, so it turns out my roommate who owns the PS2 is leaving tonight and will most likely take it with him. I can't guarantee that I can have the PS2 here tomorrow, so someone else has to bring the PS2 setup. We will still have a TV available, so that won't be a problem.

Also, this can be later in the day, at earliest 5 o clock, since it seems like people (including myself) will have stuff to do before then.

EDIT: Apparently we might be able to have the PS2 here tomorrow after all... still, someone else bring a setup just in case.

Thursday should work for me, I just don't know who'll still be in the New Brunswick area by then. My roommates will probably be fine with it though, since they're already familiar with you and Tsnow, and as long as we don't have too many people (you, Tsnow, F-Kohaku, and one or two others at the most).
