Re: C - Miyako's Airthrow in MBAACC -

I might be late to the game or missing something since I don't know the terminology, but I've noticed that I can't airdash or airdodge after an airthrow in MBAACC. I used to be able to during the console version - however, it is true that you don't move as far away from the opponent as you used to.  Frankly, I miss the airdash, but it seems like that's because I didn't use Miyako in MBAC, so I don't know those tricks...

@Numa - Yeah, I'm looking forward to Friday as well... not because I've learned anything this week, just because it's been a hell of a week...  But, I think this week we should try to seriously brainstorm ways of recording the matches without needing any special permission. In unfortunately lack any kind of decent camera...

@NETPLAY - While I agree that the scene would be larger and more active if we weren't reliant on the arcade for meeting people, I don't really see how this relates to West Toast.  There's certainly going to be netplay of some sort, and online tournaments in the future, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't also keep the arcade torch burning. There has been a consistent demonstrated interest in Melty this whole time by people at the arcade (new players every night, outside of even the regulars). If they actually recognize the name (or Brand, or whatever) of West Toast, then it's good for the scene as a whole (as it reinforces the notion that a scene even exists)... so what exactly is the problem?

@hdphnz : Haha, wut?

BTW, looks like I'll be there on Friday night, again.

Hey Id, if you're reading this, how hard would it be to get some streaming set up? Is there anything I could contribute to make it more likely?

Is anyone in the community at large interested in watching any of these matches? We don't totally suck, after all. Some of these matches are getting pretty good, I think...

... or are Numa and I the only ones watching this thread?

@Numa - ha, I'm sure you'll have the chance to take money from me later.

On that topic, are people going to show up this Friday? The HD on my PS2 is dead, so no practice for me...

Hey, I know this was late, but thanks for showing up and playing on Friday, Arly. it was great practice for me, and kinda nice to give my money to someone other than Numa for a change... :)

Haha, no sweat - it was great having another guy around! Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip and the concert!  Look us up again if you're back in the area!

There are usually at least 3 - Numa, myself and Ricki (another guy not on the boards) and we usually wind up with at least 2 or 3 other people casually joining in.  Id works there (so he's often there, but usually too busy to play).  I usually show up at around 9, Numa and Ricki are usually there earlier (around 8?), and we usually stay until well after midnight.  Although, we usually get dinner at the Sushi place next door, which lasts from around 9:30 to 10:30.  We'd absolutely love to have more people there... especially so we can share the cost of Numa's winstreaks...  ::)

....Although last night I managed to cost Numa at least some money   :toot:

If you don't mind me asking, which characters do you use? I'm thinking about adding some characters to my roster to keep the nights diverse. These days my mains are C-Ciel and C-Miyako, with an old and rusty C-Aoko thrown in, but I'm thinking about learning ... all the Kohakus(probably starting with F), and maybe a Maids.  Numa rolls a lot of the cast, but he's known for C-Hisui, and for my money, his second best is F-Satsuki. He also runs F-Kouma and has been training an H-Ryougi lately, with a bit of C and H-Arcuied thrown in.  Ricki hasn't really chosen a main, yet, but he's got pretty strong fundamentals with most of the cast.

There are a few other lurkers at the arcade who occasionally throw down on Friday nights. Last night we were joined by a C/H-Nero and a guy who ran C-Miyako and F-Nanaya. We've also been joined by some F-Aokos and C-Nanayas...

EDIT: Well, that was great timing.... ::)

Hmm, ok. I should be in on Friday, as well... any other comers? It should be nice and chill after West Toast, especially with people gone at Evo.

Yeah, great games, everyone. Assuming there's a West Toast 15, I'll definitely play again.  It was great meeting everyone from AZ, hope we get more of a chance to hang out next time.  :)

Hahaha, yeah... I was having exactly that conversation with someone last night, and their response was along the lines of "Don't even bring up the possibility that they'll screw it up, it would be too horrible to imagine!" Like, the guy that we were talking to lived in Long Beach, worked in Culver, and he had decided that he was just going to pack a duffel bag and crash with friends in Culver that weekend. People are anticipating it's gonna be very very very bad.

I think there would be rather huge economic consequences if the 405 closure spilled over into Monday, but they've gotta have some kind of backup plan... don't they?

Unfortunately, Thursday is also out for me - hardcore job interview Friday morning...

Bah - quiet, you.

GG to everyone last Friday. Unfortunately, it looks like the 405 shutdown is going to start at 10 pm this Friday, so I'm gonna be out for this weekend... Next weekend is West Toast, so I'll try to push hard to make it to that.

Crap - I'm out, too. I suddenly got word that two friends from out of town are going to be here, so I need to entertain them. (Unfortunately, they're not arcade-heads... blah) I'll definitely be in next week, though, and I'll definitely aim for next Friday night.

Hey, Ehrik, out of curiosity, you're from out of town, right? It would be great to be able to coordinate a trip (although, not this weekend... :( ) How long are you around?

Yeah, Friday nights are usually good. This last weekend I had to go on Saturday instead - there were a few people there, but not as many as Friday.  I haven't been in on Thursday, yet.

I'll probably be in this Friday.

How late do you guys think you'll be there on Friday? I have an important work meeting that's likely to start at like 9 pm.... :(

I know the arcade's open until like 2 am, so if everyone's gonna be there really late, I might still try to make it. Otherwise, I'll probably be in over the weekend.

Yeah, good times. Now to decide how much effort to put into learning Kohaku...

Hey Id, what're the odds of setting up another tourney?

Hmm, my night plans fell through, so I might actually be able to make it tonight. As usual, I haven't had much time to practice, but it'll still be good to see people.

I'd probably get there a little later than 8, though... closer to 9/9:30

Crap... keep missing the casuals...

Hey, good matches yesterday - sorry I couldn't stay longer.  Good to see that there's still a place to play, especially now that AI is gone.  Not sure if I'll be able to make Thursday (possible, but not exactly likely) but I'll definitely be around. I look forward to meeting everyone, and it's good to have an excuse to practice again :)

This is true... I didn't even know that there was a West Toast after 11.

Ok - stupid question. Are there movies posted anywhere for the later ones?  I'm pretty sure I started going to AI after West Toast 11... I did start going before Actress Again, though.  Ah, ok, I see. Were all the West Toasts at Denjin?

...
...
...
Not that I was ever good enough to ever compete in one... :(

Oh well, whatever. I'm still happy AI isn't shutting down. I'm totally going back there like every frikkin' day when I get back to SoCal.

Dammit... this is extremely sad... :'(

I had always figured there was a good chance this could happen, but I was hoping they'd wait until I got back from New York...

Guess I'm going to have to start following the whole "SoCal Non AI" thread...
