this saturday: the usual: get hype: be there: or be a square

Maybe...
Who the fuck are you? Get out of this thread. We don't take kindly to new people here.

Okay, so I'm going to try to see if Nerina and Ken want to come to this (once I get a hold of Nerina), since I know Nerina wants to play Kugler.  Only problem is that they live so far away (dur).  Any one of you guys interested in coming to this and bringing Ken and Nerina with you to my house?  From there we could all carpool in my car to Reno (easy drive and my car only uses one tank of gas ROUND TRIP).

Post here, IM me, or PM me on IRC if you're interested.

If you don't already have people in your car, I'd be interested in bringing Ken/Nerina to your place. The thing is that I'd have to be back by Monday morning (10:30AM) for class. Can't quite miss this one because it's that class's last class date and I need to try real hard for this course.

I had planned on leaving Sunday anyways, so we'll only be there for Saturday and Sunday morning.  We'd probably leave sometime in the afternoon, so you'll definitely be home on Sunday.

Sims, I'd love to have you come but I don't think I can fit you in the car at this point.  I don't want poor Nerina to be crammed in the back like a sardine. :(
Sounds good so long as the buses back to Santa Cruz are running on Sunday. That was my only other concern.

Dang, I thought they had to sell out before shipping that thing?
They did. Although they are doing another run I guess.

I'll probably be picking one of these up as a backup stick.

55
omg double post

Danny and whomever else wants to come: we should have sushi in Davis again.  I want some sushi.
Sounds tasty. Where do you usually go for sushi over there?

what's wrong with her mouth?
It would appear she has the KEY syndrome.

Alright, so FUCK CAL TRAIN. I hop on the train at 1:30 to go down to San Jose, and much to my dismay, the conductor says that sunnyvale is in fact San Jose/Diridion. So now I have to wait an hour in Sunnyvale.  Fine and dandy, I burn the time in a local bookstore. Eventually I get to San Jose/Diridion. So then I take the VTA to San Fernando...wait I have to press a button to stop the tram? FUCK. So I end up two stops past where I originally intended to go and since I don't know my around San Jose I have to backtrack using the VTA cable like the idiot I am. ALAS, I reach San Fernando, and some fellow informs me that SJSU is "that way". So I reach 2nd street and San Fernando, it is however, 5:00. So, when I reach the student union at 5:06, it is closed and thusly all the doors are locked. Or at least all the ones I tried were.

Now I am a puddle of sad.
We're still here in the bowling alley. The SU closed like 2 hrs ago. Go into the bowling alley!!!

Arcade mode, eh? Interesting idea. I'll be adopting this for the sessions in NorCal.

Hey guys! I am totally like the best Melty player in the world so, like, I need you all to give me money so I can go to SBO and show the world how awesome I am!

Oh and If you guys want to hang out with me at Fanime I'm going to be cosplaying as Riku from Kingdom Heart's. He's so Kawaii!
7.5/10

Aye. Either way there's no reason we can't have it hooked up during casuals. We'll just make sure people rotate so everyone gets a chance to have some matches recorded :)

And just to clarify...

I'll be recording GG matches, not MB. I assume that's obvious though considering MB is played on Laptop, not a TV (and most laptops don't have AV in/output).

I'll try to upload a small vid after I get it working fine so you can see the vid quality.
There is no need to record MB videos. Since it's on the PC, we have FRAPS + replays for that.

Tournament Results / Re: West Toast XI SINGLES Results
« on: April 14, 2008, 11:27:05 PM »
Hasuko: HAY!  Thanks for hosting TSS! I had a blast being raped repeatedly by those little fireball things that apparently everyone but me can dodge. I've figured out something nifty with the AT field but it probably isn't all that great. Anyways, it was fun hanging out again this weekend. You should play MB >_> I based this list off people from the results + random gg people that I met -.-"

Grats Kijea. You win... again... god damnit... Sorry I didn't make it far enough to play you in singles.

Props to Jiyuna for showing that EC isn't quite dead yet. It was nice hanging out with you especially on Sunday. I look forward to seeing you at WTXII if I end up being able to go. Sorry about the crap you had to deal with regarding your luggage. Luckily, our stick preferences were a darn good match =P Hopefully they give you something if not your luggage back for all of that shit.

Hellmonkey: Nice job beasting me in singles. I totally wasn't expecting that outcome at all >_> Thanks for everything this weekend. I promise that my Eddie (and Sion) won't be such a gigantic steaming pile of crap the next time we meet. Although I don't think I'll be able to give up on using BTL into crossup SG though =X

Nerina: Stop making that girl push the pedestal!

Kryo: Nothing but impressive play all-around this weekend. Thanks for anchoring the living shit out of buzzsaw in teams =X It's always a pleasure to hang out with you and this weekend was no exception. Let's keep netplaying =P

Arly: Thanks for taking us out to Korean BBQ. Shit was top fucking tier. This WT is like the first time I ever came close to your placing - though it isn't exactly something either of us should be too happy about =P As always, thanks for setting this all up as usual. I know I'm not alone in saying that this WT was a blast.

HF: LAKSJFDLKASDLFA - So yeah, 1v1, FT100, $2,000,000, Fox Only, Final Destination. Get hype. Good job taking me out in singles and thanks for the infinite number of "tournament" matches we had on Sunday as well =P

Aika: That's a mean Hisui you've got there. You'd give Chibi a run for his money for sure. It's nice to see someone over there who plays PoFV. I'll try get better and put up more of a challenge for the next time we play. Go go Marisa!

Spiritjuice: Genuflect or die. =P

Springer: Good to see you're still playing since the last WT. Too bad we didn't get to talk very much at all during either days. Maybe next time, eh?

JO50: Thanks for everything - especially the things in regards to Korean BBQ. I would probably have died of food poisoning or something if you hadn't taken charge like that. Nice car btw =X

Ultracarl: Nice to see you again. Keep leveling up dat Hisui. Be ready for a full course meal in Korean BBQ next time! Maybe! >_>

Soniti: Where were the corner loops? Joking aside, it's good to see that you've got your stick fixed and you've gotten a lot more consistent since that one epicly long netplay session we had that one day =X Hit me up for netplay if you find yourself on a stable connection again.

Desu: For some reason, the one thing that stands out moreso than anything was you coming up to Soniti and I will playing and exclaiming "I just OCV'd a team" on Saturday. Nice job! Now the next step is to shield like a fiend like a certain other Nazi Nero >_>

Spidey: I'm going to just take a wild guess that you were the one with a laptop with a spiderman background =X However, we didn't get to talk very much. I'll spec a netplay match and edit this with a nifty comment sometime in the future!

Xie: By process of elimination I am going to take a guess that you were the one Asian guy that said that I have a sexy voice while testing that mic. Thanks. Lol... =P

Buzzsaw: Nothing to say here.. ... ...

Numakie: I didn't see you at all except when you were playing on the B1 machine before the tourney on Saturday! WTF?!

Scottind: It seems to be a trend with your team! Like ninjas you vanished almost instantly!

Leo: See above! Ack!

Lina: Thanks for teaming with me in TSS even though I'm pretty bad at it. You pulled some pretty rigged shit in your later matches. Didn't get a chance to see you play MB though unfortunately.

motoh: Sorry I wasn't much help in terms of helping you learn vakiha. Of course, if you ever have any questions, just shoot me a PM on here or IRC. Hell, throw LK one while you're at it if you ever have a need for it. He knows more about her than I do and his guide is top notch. Nice to finally meet you in person. Maybe we can meet again sometime in the future.

Obaloney: Hey you! I didn't even get to see you play melty! Good thing we faced off in GG lol >_> I'll play you next time when you get another pad or your stick comes in. I've got quite a lot of respect for someone who can still play Anji in AC. Good shit.

Zaido: I think you destroyed my team in GG teams but I can't remember. Nice exec! It's a pity I didn't get to see you play MB at all >_>

Anyone else I might have forgotten: Sorry, I just spent about 7+ hours in a car with 4 other guys talking about the most random shit in the universe and sleep seems like a darn good idea right about now. I'll edit this later if I find the need.

Bottom, Bottom Tier: Magz/Ultracarl
The nachos did it, I swear!

uLTraCarL needs to stop playing mabi and grind mb, or replacements may need to be called in.  :psyduck:

Half of #MBAC plays Mabi. And really, with only a week to go how much do you think someone can improve against tourney regulars.
Depends on your competition/training partners.

623/214 A/B tend to work in specific situations. Keep in mind that 623B must be shielded in the air.
3B is also very situational but air-unblockable.
Jump air-throw if you feel like imitating Psylocke.
Shielding is cool too, I guess. EX Shield into 5A counter into 214B into air combo.
Dodging can work sometimes but don't count on it.
5B is Nandeyanen's weapon of choice, but I don't like using it personally.

You could always try my personal favorite and high block though. It works just about 100% of the time for me.

214c in/near corner: (j.C) (2a) 5B 2B 5C 214C 2C (2 hits) into either a) 5C 214A Air Throw or b) Wakeup crossup from 2C

As for 22C it depends where you are.

If you're in the corner you can probably get away with anything. It's untechable. Just be creative. I haven't tested these much but check to see if you can get a 5[C] in.

If you're at least the a screen away from the corner you will be looking at something involving sj.[C] into 5[C] into something. Once again, be creative while keeping proration in mind.

I don't know about cross-ups during blockstrings. I don't recall ever going for them myself. If your opponents are poking out, in general, you want to stagger your strings better and train them to block. However, if they know what Sacchin is capable of, and the fact that you give up so much by jumping over your opponent, it shouldn't be very hard for your opponent to escape once you take to the air.

Don't forget about fake j.[C] throw if you don't think you'll have enough time to do a bite.

AJ and Danny, I can go to WTXI 100% now, just so you faggots know.  Did you guys still want to go?
Definitely.

After finally watching it I have to give a big thanks to Devereaux and Dakanya, that video was thoroughly entertaining minus the Melty Blood stuff.

6/5 for sure.

69
Update: buzzsaw brought his TV and Sims brought his PS2 so we'll be sessioning GGXXAC as well.

You can also disable subpicture prebuffering in the CCCP settings on install or just go to Start -> Combined Community Codec Pack -> Settings.

Hmmm... Akagi theme... This video's already epic.

Tsubasa/Dakanya: Bring your laptops. Mine will be out of commission for a while.

Tournaments and Events / Re: 2008 Melty Cup - US Championships
« on: March 28, 2008, 02:00:59 AM »
My point being is that small, local tournaments don't really mean all that much.  Don't get all butthurt over it, AJ. :p

Someone was asking "when has a Sion in the US placed in a [major] tournament?", someone gave them an answer, and I said small, local tournaments don't really count for anything.  Placing in a major tournament >>>>>>>>>>>>>> placing in a local tournament between you, mostly your friends, and local comp.

I understand that, but how do you determine what a "major" is? Having more than a certain amount of players? Having X people come from out of town? Who/what sets the standard for that? All of that aside, I'd just like to point out that majors had nothing to do with the original question, unless I'm reading it wrong. Of course, this all depends on your definition of "placing" and that's just a whole other pile of shit that's not worth getting into.

Edit: Sorry, the way I phrased my earlier statement was a little much.

Quote from: Master Chibi
Why the fuck are we bringing up a comment I made four months ago anyway?
I'm not. Note that I specifically edited my quote to direct my post at Scott's comment about local tournaments vs. "major" tournaments. I've said nothing in regards to anything else.

Local tournaments do not count. :|
Draw the line fallacy is for retards. How about we just say that tournaments without players on the kijea/Nerina level don't count either?

Or hell, let's be even more realistic and say that tournaments in the U.S don't count.
