Anyway, you can bet I'll be practicing after tonight for several reasons: new combos, to learn better tactics, and I'm looking forward to AM6.Oh, I just realized I forgot to go over counterhit comboing with you, but that'll come after I see some more progress on your okizeme mixup. I also forgot to tell you that you want the basketball to hit AFTER your slider when you do the 7j.[c] land 623a. You want this because the extra blockstun from having basketball hit second will allow you to have safe recovery on 623a (normally it's slightly unsafe on block). With that in mind, you pretty much never want to use 623a on a blocking opponent unless you either have a basketball coming down or you will push them into a ground ice that's just behind them. 623b is completely safe though, which is why mixing up between 623b and 623[ b] is so effective. In any blockstrings or okizeme, utilize 623[ b] to surprise the enemy with low (2a) or throw (624a/c) when they're expecting high. Use it too often and they'll start mashing 5a though. We'll get to more advanced oki gimmicks (like crossup and double crossup shenanigans) after you get your fundamental meaty mixups down.

OK you two, break it up. There are too few of us here in the Dustbowl that play MB at a serious level, or want to for that matter. We already have enough problems with EC, CAN, MEX, EU, and maybe even JPN and KOR if they can show up for EVO. We all have to learn as much as we can before the reckoning that is EVO. Ok so I am curious about the timing and recovery after sheilding especially for sheilding multi-hit attacks. I come from a 3s background where you have a instant recovery frame right after a successful parry. At times it seems like I have no advantage frame after a successful sheild to do a counter attack even on normal link combos. It seems like my character is still stuck in the sheilding animation after certain multiple frame attacks and thus can not successfully sheild all of them or counter attack. I am not sure if this depends on the amount of time the button is held or not either. I have been able to do this on occasions, but not consistantly. I may not have it down right yet due to the game speed, but does this work the same for MBAA? I figure any insite may help me to get this down with more ease.

Shielding in MBAC would incur you a damage penalty on your counter-attack, as well as a frame disadvantage. A normal held shield, I believe, was a 50% pro-rate, whereas an Ex Shield was 35%. You're correct in thinking it's similar to parry, but here, it's slightly different. When you shield in MB, it forces the other person's move to continue, as if they whiffed it. In 3S, you get immediate frame advantage, not so here.
Now, shielding got changed a bit in MBAA from MBAC. You can only hold shield in Crescent and Full, not Half. This is bad for people who hold shield (i.e. not Ex Shield which is tapping the shield button) since gaining meter in MBAA is different. It's pretty useless now. I'd focusing on learning how to use Dodge.
There's also Shield Bunkers (214D) which are Alpha Counters. 100% meter use in Half-Moon but I believe it's invincible. 50% in the others.
What is this BBCS action being played on? PC, cab, or modded arcade board? Also would this just be a Saturday thing cause I would not be able to pull off another Friday off?
Thanks guys, exactly the kind of info I was looking for. So essentially if I use crescent that is the closest I can get to a 3s type of parry style by using the EX shield since I can cancel into normals and specials. This would explain why I was so confused before because I was primarily using Full Moon Rouma or Half Moon Roa and trying to following up my shields with normals. Gonna try to work in that shield counter more since it seems pretty beast. That takes 100% heat and kinda looks like a burst attack right?Nah, shield counter doesn't take up meter. It usually just looks like an uppercut of some sort on the ground or a quick poke in the air. Just do 236D immediately after connecting with a shield and you'll get it.
As long as I don't need to take off the Friday I am down for that tourney. I wanna play on that Mike Z cab.

1 PC with BBCS
2 fatty PS2s
1 set of PS2 component cables
1 PS2 memory card with Free McBoot
2 PS2 pads
2 PS2 sticks
1 PS2 to USB convertor
1 set of DVI to DVI cables (soon to have VGA convertor)
Since GO has all LCDs we need to have component cables for the PS2s or else we are gonna get lag. Also we will need either VGA or HDMI computer cables to hook up any BBCS setups. Since this going to be an all day thang with two seperate games here is the idea: Have two TVs for free play on each game (or pools if enough numbers show up) and one on the larger TV for the current tourney game. Any suggestions, comments, player hating? Hit me up.
^^I have one copy of MBAA, but I got some DVDs so I can make a backup copy of the one for my other PS2 if needed. From my experience we will really only need one memory card with Free McBoot since we can just boot into the game and then use the same memory card on the other setups the same way. ^^There are a total of 7 TVs at GO and I want to have at least 2 TVs for each game. I figure if we get a big influx of people in either game we can add additional stations. I know that he was from Cali and is already very familiar with BBCS from playing it in the arcades. Apparrently he has a very strong Arakune. I think GO this Saturday could work for me as well. Should get some more MBAA in as well.

Personally, I think it's just me. I try jump ins only to get beat out by Ragna's 6A. I know a frontal assault from the air isn't a good way to go, so I try to attempt crossups. However, it looks like Ragna can punish those as well with his 6A. So the only thing I can think of is to somehow jump in on him when he doesn't expect it.
The Ragna player's offensive pressure game really gave me some trouble. I'm having a hard time when it comes to punishing Ragna's 214A (he's facing right). Even if he tries to do his extra attack I figure tsubame should beat it out. However, I think if he doesn't, all he has to do is his shoryu and that solves that problem. Occasionally, his 6b into 3c blockstring would trip me up every now and then but that's my fault. Also, if I successfully block his dead spike, is there any good counter for that? I don't think so...
I think my other problem is simply how to approach a real good Ragna player from the ground instead of the air. I'm worried that if I throw out one 5b carelessly, he's going to see it coming and then he'll IAD and then I'll suffer a combo. I try to use 6b every now and then to see if Ragna was gonna try to use his 5b or something on me for a counter hit attempt. Except when it fails, I'm normally wide open for a combo. So pretty much if there's some safe pokes out there that I don't know about I would like to know.
So I guess overall, my main problems are: 1. How to approach Ragna from the ground. 2. How to effectively counter some of his offensive assaults. 3. How to jump in on him (if at all).

I have been to tournaments with same characters, even if it is not the norm. I want to allow the best PLAYERS to be represented, not character diversity. Limiting one same character a team could possibly limit the overall strength in players. Examples would be Sp00ky/Nightroad from NY and Me/DivineArc from the South. They are solid players who represent each other and their state/region well so why should they not compete on the same team?

Also I don't think I remembered last time, but MBAA tourneys usually have a "loser can switch character, winner can switch moon style" rule. However, because of Evo rules being set with only loser can change anything, you can set it that way too. Both rulings are acceptable (and really, most of us aren't playing multiple moon styles of the same character anyway, so it won't be an issue if it's set to Evo rules).

Usually these are Evo rules (or always have been in the past for 3s so not sure why they changed this for MBAA), but I will be going with the "loser can switch character, winner can switch moon style". Other than that I was going to say that if you wanna post this in the official tournament thread go for it, but I would recommend you do so under yours or Prinny's screen names since you guys have more sway in the MB community. Hey guys I highly suggest we all start going to Gemini Arcade to show the owner that we are interested in getting fighting game arcade machines here in Vegas. I talked to her and she said if there is interest she will be getting KOF XIII, SSFIV, etc all with HD cabs. She has been looking into this but no one that plays fighters really goes there. They do have 1 HDTV and let you bring your console to play. You can also bring your own setups to play as well (console and monitor). They do not charge for you going there and playing on your own setups. Also, the place is pretty big and has room to spare. Holding future get togethers or tournaments there would be great!!! Let's show them we're interested and get it poppin over there.

Looking for a job is practically a job in itself, so if you work at it well it pays off! I'm already working towards a couple possibilities via Craigslist, so hopefully I'll have good news soonish.
