in the event that we are able to perform some dual commentary (and i really hope this goes down as i'm a big fan), ive decided to post up some guidelines/pointers for those eager to snatch up a mic and yap away.
Color commentary
mostly fills in the time gaps before the 'srs bsns' goes down and the 'real talk' begins (ie the in-game matches). Topics for discussion can and usu include:
-announce upcoming matches
-player background (location, local scene, yrs active, contributions, titles, chara choices, win/loss record vs opposing player, etc.)
-chara matchups/win ratio
-personal exps vs player or chara
-console vs arcade discussion
-event history and current outcome
-brief discussion of exploits, bugs or mechanics
-of course, shoutouts/kudos
-match predictions of outcome (careful w/ this one lol)
main commentary
usu focuses on strong emphasis of in-game/match-in-progress discussion
-play-by-play
-in-depth details on intricate setups, bugs, exploits
-predictions (can also discuss w/ color)
-player/chara expectations (so and so could/should be doing xyz ***it's important you KNOW how the chara is used on hi lvl though***)
-discuss alternative outcomes/approaches that could have been applied post-round or match
-crack jokes on chara misrepresentation (yeah, i said it)
-interview player(s) after match to dicuss key points (make sure theyre NOT salty for best results)
-make connections to other fighters (usu when discussing exploits, setups, etc.)
i personally feel that it should be understood/established who will be doing what type of commentary beforehand as to not step over eachother's words. Unless of course the chemistry is gdlk...which it rarely ever is and the most gdlk commentators can juggle between both styles even solo (im not one of these ppl lol) which again, hardly works out too often. Anyway, my $0.02
