Dipstick covered it.  That's pretty much how it goes.  Imagine going to a gas station and going to fill up a tank of gas.  Now imagine how many people have touched that pump handle in one day.  Now imagine that pump handle is an arcade stick... and that's how you can get sick while going to an arcade.  I always practice good hygiene and wash my hands often while attending events like these, but it's really easy to forget and randomly wipe your eye or rub your nose so you allow something to get in your body fairly easily. :|
