Congrats to Lord Knight! That's like, 2 majors in a row.

Got any vids?

What time is the stream? I'll see if I can catch it.

Still going through the matches. HF's Aoko is a beast! but I was most impressed with that H-Ryougi. You don't see a lot of those vids around. Fancy knife-catching action FTW.

Interesting results. And not a single H-Shiki in sight!

Seeing some characters that don't usually get played. Will you guys have the vids up online?

if MBAA PC port will release afterwards, i hope that will be Final Tuned  instead of Current Code.

What would be the difference? The name? LOL.

Hard to judge if it's faster or not until we get a clean video capture. But overall to me the graphics look more polished.

Here's the other video btw : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFAg0UYOIy0

Thanks that's really helpful info. I'm coming from MBAC where Arc had a really good oki game. Enough recovery from air throw, 5B, corner pressure... things obviously H-Arc lacks lol.

Great point about the link. Will try that out next time.

Kohaku's Video Room / Re: Melty Blood Actress Again Tutorial Video

I'd be willing to contribute to this project, mostly on the writing side, as I've done some editing work in the past. Just let me know how I can help :)

Here's a short sample (had to rush to do this, will write some more later if needed):

Melty Blood: Actress Again - MBAA for short - is a 2D fighting game developed by ECOLE. It is the third installment in the Melty Blood series and is playable in Arcade (released Q4 2008) and the PS2 (released August 2009).

The game is a sequel of sorts to the visual novel, Tsukihime. We won’t be going into any details on Tsukihime since this is more of a tutorial for MBAA.

Now on to the tutorial!

Was thinking we can target SF4 players since they're so many, lol. We can highlight key differences between the fighting engines as part of the introduction, then gradually go into the intricacies of what makes MBAA unique.

Hope we can get this thread started again. There's really not enough info on H-Arc. And most of the match vids you can find involve the other moons.

Any tips on her oki / pressure game? These seem to be the most vital points to H-Arc. I can't seem to get enough pressure from an air throw. Used to the recovery back in MBAC, when you could still whiff 2a then throw. Ahhh those were the days...

Numerical notations are easy.  In my opinion this is the most universal and efficient notation. Just picture this in your head:

7 8 9
4 5 6
1 2 3

Imagine a joystick in a neutral notation. That would be 5. All the other numbers correspond to directional inputs, so 5a is simply standing a.

Examples:
Down - 2
Down-forward - 3
Down-back - 1
Hadouken motion - 236
Dragon punch - 623

Soon it will be second nature.

Hope that helped.

Hmmm, since melty's sprite style is basically pure anime, it would be cool to finally see a FG where the in game sprites are pretty much identical in style and appearance to the character select art.   They should hire some anime studio to do all the artwork & sprites at anime/tv/broadcast resolutions, and then downscale it to sprites for the game.  That way, even if hardware improves and they can use higher resolutions, they have the source sprites at super hi res so they dont need to redraw anything.

Either that or go 2.5D using celshaded graphics like the PS3 Naruto game.

Surely with all the typemoon success everywhere, there would be enough money floating around to make the next melty (after MBAAFT) a proper modern game?

Hate to burst your bubble sir but the chances of another Melty blood game is about the same as Tsukihime 2.

Wow just started playing MBAA again haha. Anyway, had an observation on Tohno. As far as his playstyle is concerned, he should try to limit his attacking to the ground as much as he can. Old Tohno had a good air-to-air normal in jA, which now at least for Half-moon, angles a bit downward.  I don't know about you guys, but I get beat out A LOT in the air especially against the likes of Akiha and Sion.

Anyway, this is just based on my own playing, so feel free to correct me if you have observed otherwise.

Fuck years, at the very least this means they haven't given up on this game yet.

Naming it 'final' tuned suggests they have given up already though. Though this at least gives me some hope for a PC port.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but Rief's 6B can deflect Ciel's blades:

Any tips for the corner 623a 6a 2c link? Can't seem to get it to connect. Either the 2c comes out too late or the opp is too high for it to connect.

For our community here in the Philippines it was the reverse - netplay helped build the community. I started out playing in some random hamachi server then I met another Filipino player, who knew other people who play, etc. Now because we got to know each other through netplay, then we started seeing each other regularly for casuals and tourneys - which I suppose can also be attributed to the crappy internet connection here. :P

I can't imagine me meeting people from the scene here if it wasn't for netplay because there's was no other venue to play mbac over here. Oh and about friends who play the game... to some poeple it's just not an option. None of my friends like to play fighters. They're just not into it no matter how I try to introduce it to them. Which is why netplay can be a godsend for me to meet others with similar interest.

So I guess for the NY scene, netplay hurts their community, but in other cases it benefits others. To each his own I guess.

Here's an F-Arc corner combo does about 4.4k damage on Akiha.

2aa5b2b2c 236a 623a6a (slam) 623b jb jc jb jc throw.

The tricky part is linking the 236a with the 623a as there is a slight delay required. Good to see she still has delay corner strings in this style :D.

Archetype:Earth vid. Kind of a letdown as she looks just like Arc. Oh well XD.

Well a friend of mine who is very particular on game mechanics noticed that MBAA (at least for the arcades in SG) felt slower compared to MBAC. And that hitboxes were weirder and harder to predict. Like everyone turned into Ciel from MBAC or something LOL. Also larger hitboxes for ground normals.

The difference not something you can tell from just watching vids. You have to play it for yourself.

Then again, it could be a function of what character he was using. He mains Maids with Hisui lead.

I won't be having the chance to try it out for myself until the PS2 port comes out, so was just curious.

23
For those of you who played the game, any stark differences between mbac and mbaa in terms of how the game feels? Heard that mbaa feels 'slower' than mbac? Can anyone confirm this?

24
Any Idea if the PS2 release is going stateside? and if august release is japan only so I can calculate how long I have to wait and save up cash before I can find a copy here in the Philippines
The chances of it getting ported outside of Japan is very small.

Or none at all :P

Seriously just order it off play-asia.

On the cover: why is kouma even there?  ??? I'd rather they put all the new chars in.

And isn't Sion still, technically, the main 'heroine' of melty?

Wow thanks for the tip. Especially for safe wake up heats (4 [1]+<A+B+C>). That's golden.
