We changed the design of it so that it's now Neko Arc Chaos sitting on top of the bazooka, smoking a cigarette.

If there's console stations at HBB, you should also try to bring a computer or laptop with S-Video or Composite output and hold tourneys on it.

Hey, how was Japan?

It's Friday night, there'll be people here for 3s. As for Melty, dunno?

You guys need to hold a tourney at some venue up there some time (I dunno, a net cafe works since it's PC). If it's late January or early February, I might even consider going up to NorCal via MegaBus or road trip :V

I'm going to use our previous setup with televisions outputting from the PC instead of the big-screen monitors for WTX. We currently have four televisions available, and two of those will be allocated to GGXXAC. It still strikes me as strange though, since the big-screens are running at 800x600@60Hz and are going directly from VGA. S-Video doesn't have lag either, fortunately (our MvC2 and CvS2 setups use S-Video).

Alt, many of your points could be directly applied to the movie theater industry. Why build these huge multiplex theaters with tons of needlessly expensive equipment and stupidly overpriced food when the studios could make more money by simply selling directly to the consumer via DVDs to watch at home? Or maybe they could gather at someone's house to watch it. But people don't always have the equipment to watch it at home, or it's inferior to the theater, or most importantly, they want to enjoy themselves with their friends by going out.

Likewise, arcades have dedicated equipment for the games, provide a convenient socializing spot, and have the highest fidelity for gaming experience (lagless, etc). Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of arcades anymore because of several reasons, one that the AMAA is run by a bunch of retards, there's a serious stigma in city management against issuing game licenses for arcades, most (good)games are created for the Japanese market instead of the American market, and most arcades still operate by charging quarters since it's the most cost-effective way of operating (but also labor-intensive and doesn't allow for incremental changes in pricing to compensate for inflation).

Also, you bring up the superiority of net-cafes as a venue, when it's the net-cafes that one of the most difficult business models to sustain, period. The net-cafe boom of the late 90's/early 2000 era has been obliterated, and us closing Interface in Simi Valley is yet another one that bites the dust. The best net-cafes have the benefit of corporate sponsorship, but that's not something most small businesses can handle.

I also wouldn't want to host 20+ people at my house on a regular basis to sustain a fighting game scene, with the food, drinks, utilities and other accommodations necessary to support that many people. It's far more easier to arrange an event at an arcade since it already has the infrastructure to support large amounts of people, short of renting out a convention center or hotel.

You're absolutely correct on the point that the arcade business model doesn't generate enough profit compared to the cost of operations, though. There's not a whole lot of help or infrastructure for us to advance the system, however.

I need to address something with you guys.

No offense but you're shoving more support for UP - they've had verB2 for a while now, and none of us want an outdated version :(.

This is a somewhat pushy reply to someone who was trying to contribute to the community. I actually felt a bit offended by it. If Kid.D didn't reply the way he did, I'd have told you to dial it down a bit.

Flipped out cause I said the word "fuck you" a couple times?
He said what he said like an asshole.
You said it in the way a person who isn't an asshole explains it.
He wouldn't have said it like THAT to a strangers face, cause then there'd be a chance that they would've responded the way I did.

It's about $900 for the machine with version A installed.
It's almost another $1000 to get the vB2 update installation software.

And Master Chibi, I'm going to UP this weekend for the first time.
You can check the place out if you want, but at least this weekend you don't have to force yourself; I'd rather meet all the players I can at once.

And you, sir, shouldn't take things so personally. Please keep the cursing on this board to a minimum. Nobody here really knows you, and you didn't handle his reply very well. I know you had the best of intentions when you posted about Eight on the Break's ver.A, but you come across as someone with no class with replies like that. People can't respect that. Just remember that this is the internet and A)nobody really means disrespect like they would in person, and B) whatever you say here never goes away, so you'll thank yourself later for keeping your cool.

I understand the risks and costs associated with the coin-op business (I'm a manager at an arcade and we only have ver.A too, but we have PCs with ver.B). A location with ver.A is better than no location at all, since it helps to raise awareness of the scene. Also Chibi, there is no need to get elitist with the Happ/Japanese controls when people are eventually looking to get the game at home anyways. That's like being a snob about the plastic baggy that your gram of weed came in.

I don't think people will travel long distances to 8/Break for Melty, but it should drum up some interest, Kid.D. Point them to Melty Bread wiki(thanks Motoh) and forums for advice and strategies, and if you plan on holding tournaments for Melty Blood (use PC ver.B2), that's what'll draw out-of-towners in to show the arcade owner that there's definitely promise for a ver.B2 arcade cabinet.
