When the hell did I ever refuse to play stick?

If I'm able to use a pad, then I'll use a pad, otherwise I'm quite fine using a stick.

:P
dude, you're such a fucking liar. there were plenty of times where you got fed up switched to pad out of frustration/lack of comfort. if you were truly 'fine' there wouldn't be any need to ever use pad, right?

Watch their heads pop when they actually go up against some real mb players. But I would be surprised if Chibi blew it because he refuses to play on stick.  ::)

  • What the hell is #Mages-Association, Zar?
#M-A is a channel devoted solely to the Aoko user. Whether you don't know how to get started with Aoko, seek improvement in your game, wish to discuss strategy and high-level play or you're just a complete Aoko fan-boy- this is the haven for you.

What was originally intended to be a player guide/tutorial, "evolved" into a sub-community erected on IRC to mentor beginners and provide a place to discuss the more complex notions between seasoned players.

With Aoko being considered one of the few characters in MB with a steep learning curve, I felt that it was necessary to organize a focus group of sorts in order to network better with other players and help speed up progress with those just starting out or trying to step up their game. While the number of members in the channel are few, I feel that many of the regular attendants (including myself) have greatly improved since the channel was started.

So If you're interested in trying your hand at Aoko as a main or sub character or you're already a current user who wishes to share some of those tricks you have up your sleeves, drop by and see what we're all about.

  • So how do I join this fantastic channel, now?!  :fap:
Server: irc.mizuumi.net
Channel: #mages-association

Just grab an IRC client or software and enter the information above.

This however is a slightly faster method:
1) http://mibbit.com/chat/
2) Click server (top-middle) and enter  irc.mizuumi.net  in the box.
3) In the channel: (mid-right) box enter  #mages-asscoiation
4) Change your Nickname (mid-left) to whatever you think sounds cool
5) Click GO! And that's it. Just give it about 10 seconds and you'll be firing off finger lasers in no time.

If Mibbit is not for you then try out one of these dozens of other clients.
IRC Clients

  • Will it always be "OMG, Aozaki Aoko 100% SRS BSNS!!1"?
Although the channel does mostly focus on Aoko-related topics, we do from time to time discuss other interesting things that may pop up with other characters in MB. There have even been occasions where other fighters (3S, GG, EFZ, etc.) have been mentioned and discussed briefly in the channel.

However, deviating too often - rather never contributing anything to the "main" discussion (e.g. you talk about LOLIS ALL THE TIME) or not interacting at all (i.e. idling for weeks at a time) will likely get you kicked and eventually banned.

Players should come in the channel with the intention of learning the ins and outs of Aoko (heheh) or leaving other members with a bit of advice/info that will help us all improve in some way with the character. Please consider this before joining.

  • I just want to learn anti-Aoko strats/How to beat this orb-camping whore...
"If you know both yourself and your enemy, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss." - Some Old Chinese Dude

What better way to learn how to smash Aoko than by learning about what makes her work?  If you come in the channel expecting a simple answer to your match-up problems VS Aoko then you probably won't get it (although you could be clever about how you ask). We'd be glad to help you get started on learning Aoko and explaining how to approach certain match-ups using her with you though.

  • But my Aoko is is ass. I'll just waste everyone's time...
Everyone has to start somewhere. I've seen quite a few members grow into competent Aoko users by simply asking questions, being patient and determined when training, doing independent research and experimenting as well as getting feedback from others in the channel. Aoko isn't really a character you can pick up in a week and it will take much time, practice and ass-beatings before you notice improvement. Stay true, stay blue and stick with it!

Zar Month 1 Aoko

  • But my Aoko is already GDLK. I'll just be wasting my time...
There's always room for improvement no matter how nice you may think you are. Even one of Japan's top-ranked Aoko users, JefferyManson@Ero, is always finding new ways to tweak/refine his gameplay and create more bizarre techniques and setups to keep up with competition. As more people are starting to get into MB outside of Japan, you can believe that the quality of competition will become more demanding. Will your game be at it's best when that time comes? At #M-A we always try to spread new ideas that will help us stay on top of our game.

...Plus you don't want to keep all of that godliness to yourself, do you?  :teach:

  • So what's this thread for then?
The thread is mainly for presenting any issues you may have when trying to connect to mizuumi.net or the channel. Feel free to also leave any comments or feedback you may have about the channel or its members. Crazy IRC quotes and funny moments or what have you are encouraged as well.

I'll be personally using the thread to post any "special guest visits" that may occur or any long leave of absences that I may take which will likely occur when I'm back in school.

If you wish to post any Aoko MBAA related information please refer to any of the three threads listed below for your convenience, to avoid any unnecessary clutter here and to leave room for troubleshooting & shoutoutssss  :toot:.

...could you make and av (not animated of course) of aoko doing 'Ass-kick'(TM) at Ray (FHD) performing 'Wheel Kick'? and have some random clash effect where their feet overlap?

or make it look as if they crossed through eachother via epic samurai battle style. that would be the sweetnessss!

the 'free damage' (otg) is insignificant. I'm more conserned with the shit-load of meter you get for otg'ing (contributes to heat regen later) and the mindgame behind 'giving me the opportunity to tech' (in which you appropriately punish) vs me choosing not to tech and having to deal w/ the next wakeup.

naiiiiisssssss...

time to nit-pick: ground recovery is actually 4/8/6, same as air recovery except neutral airtech is 5+button. Anyone know if D-button (or even E-button :o) allows air recovery?

also, activation can be done w/ A+C as well.

Where the hell are you Blue players getting these hot avs from!?  >:(

school combined with sheer laziness have been keeping me from attempting to start up a Blue Thread and covering the 'basics' is is very tedious for me. But as soon as someone gets the noob junk out of the way, I'll be glad to startup a thread for the more 'advanced' techniques.

People do stupid things against Ciel when they are scared, but there's no excuse for using the wrong bnb.
some ppl just dont know any better. cant run the same blockstrings that would be "safe" vs the rest of the cast on ciel. staggering attacks doesnt help much either. gotta stick low risk options cus a good ciel player will always be buffering on the defensive.

Akiha Tohno / Re: General Akiha Strategy

I'd like to contribute some "corner swap" combo for akiha:

If youve seen enough VAkiha matches then her 2c>5b>5b>IAD(cross under)>dj.(9)b>dj.c should be familiar to you. Why go for this combo? well w/ vakiha placed directly into the corner, going for her standard b&b (2c>5b>5b>j.a>j.b>dj.b>dj.c , i think) will only carry the opponent to about 3/4 of the stage. vakiha would then have to exhaust two air dashes just to attempt okizeme. problem w/ this is 3/4 stage gives the opponent enough room to backstep away from the potential threat.

Akiha suffers the same fate when she is placed in the corner as well. for this reason (i believe) japanese players developed corner swapping combos to place the opponent instead, directly into the corner giving them less options on wake up.

there are two variations that ive seen so far:

T.Akiha, back to corner:
2a>2a>6c>2c>delay 5b>5b>iad (cross under)>dj.(9)b>dj.c>airthrow

very similar to vakihas swap combo but her sucky airdash makes it harder to execute w/o alot of practice...

a much easier variation:

T.Akiha, back to corner:
whatever into>2c>delay 5b>5b>sj.b>sj.c>airdash>j.(7)>airthrow (4)

much easier than the above but still requires some practice. often times i'll still be holding 7 while performing airthrow so i get out shield instead  ::).

Kohaku's Magical Garage / Re: The Bara Cancel (Bunker Cancel) Thread
« on: February 27, 2007, 08:10:55 AM »
That sounds ridiculously easy. Is it?
...yes...very much so. Ex knives/5cc + Zar = Sad ciel...everyone need to learn this because im tired of seeing ppl try to chip red life and/or burn the opponents regen  ::).

@ Linalys:
make a new bara vid...with bara sj's, dashes, throws, dodges, sj into aerial specials, back/foward dashes, etc. against more "common" offenses...like blockstrings (2abc? stop doing that plz), better blockstrings (vsion  ex katto), single 2a ticks (kouma says "NO!"), etc. Ppl need to see more practical ways of how its used. im surprised japan hasnt compiled some random vid for this yet. Go lin, get the jump on everyone!

1050
ah ic... i thought it was 99 really fast "that is how i press it to iad, and it works for me..." but didn't really know the exact input was 696 but that advice will save me the trouble ! nice to know thanks!
lol i bet you play on pad, right? most pad players are under the asumption that IAD is 9 5 6 (or in your case 9  9). It's very easy to accidentally get the two 6 commands either before or after the jump when using pad. Back when i used to play FT on a saitek i was 100% certain that IAD was 9 5 6! but when i was forced to play on stick (yes, id like to compete in an arcade event one day) i quickly noticed that more accuracy was involved in the execution. which brings me to this...

Quote from: Shinjin
Just do 6 9 5 6 and you'll nail it every time. That's how I do it. Ppl tend to forget that you have to do the neutral-input.
:o. im very glad you pointed this out! there were times when i would practice IADs with input display on and i'd see the 696 but would get jump as a result. Unfortunately input display doesnt display "nuetral" (unless holding a button?) so that made it a bit harder to check my mistakes. so yeah, as Shinjin said the nuetral-input has to be in there somewhere:
either 6 5 9 6
or 6 9 5 6 (more common)

Jeffrey Manson actually does:
6 8 6 or 6 7 6

still practicing that myself  :(.
