Akiha's Tea Room / Garu's Final Round Pictures
« on: March 14, 2012, 09:29:28 AM »
Thanks for the help everyone!  Garu wanted to give something back to the MB community for all the help and kindness they received, so he entrusted me to give you guys his Final Round XV pictures (and the subsequent week from his vacation).  He sent me an email saying how much fun it was and they can't wait to see everybody again.

The pictures can be found here:  http://depositfiles.com/files/9v5nnn5nx

(You'll need 7zip to unzip it)

Akiha's Tea Room / Fighting Game Terminology Eng->JP Dictionary
« on: March 09, 2012, 06:59:49 AM »
Hey guys, I'll be sitting down with Garu later today to make a fighting game terminology dictionary.  Post every single fighting game term from whiff to IAD and we'll come up with a translation for it.

I should of posted this earlier, but just do your best to post as many as you can think of before work.  Anything involving game situations, game HUD, or input things are fine.

Before I get started on Garu/Chelsea interviews, my happiness that 73 people attended this event, the success of it all together, how much fun it was seeing everyone again, or anything else, I want to make an apology.

After my loss in singles to my opponent, Denthorn, I made a very rude, inappropriate, and frankly stupid display of myself by throwing my stick in the hallway shortly after the match.  Larry had seen this, along with about two dozen players, and it not only looked bad on me, but our scene in general.  There is no excuse for this, and I just wanted to genuinely apologize for what I did.  I realized my stick was broken and didn't realize it until after the match, resulting in the angry mishap.  I ignored comments people made on it from Winter Brawl and my own instinct regarding mis-inputs during the tournament.  I was rightfully warned by the staff, which was kind enough to not completely expel me from the event all together (honestly, they should have).

The anger was primarily not even due to the stick, or my match, but moreso a series of events that happened the entire weekend, that I would rather forget.  I had little sleep, both me and my friends who traveled to the event took heavy financial loss  :bricks:, and I wasn't able to welcome our international players in the way I had planned out for months.  Honestly, I want to thank the community for making this event so successful that this looked like a small blemish at worst.  Also I want to thank everyone who made extra efforts to support me accomplish what needed to be done for the event where I became unable to due to what happened.  Especially Ehrik, Jimmy, Rei, and Brandino.

The ignorance in on itself deserves a loss, and I want my opponent Denthorn to know I'm not upset with him or anyone else in anyway.  In this sense Denthorn won by being such a prepared and honorable opponent.  I'm really sorry for what I did, or any bad impression I might of given off due to my stress over this weekend.

lol who's a standard american top player?  let's name some names here, get hype

My money is on chelsea if he fought you.

If anyone needs a room JUST FOR THURSDAY NIGHT try talking to Brandino.  He has extra room tonight in our room since a lot of people staying in that room are coming tomorrow.

82
If anyone thinks they are worthy, Chelsea still needs at teammate.  He dealt with a more than difficult pool #1 at Evo, but I assure you he's up to par if not above your standard American top player.

If you have space in your team for him let me know and I can hook you up.  Chelsea generally likes meeting people, so if you want to team up with him let me know and I'll introduce you.

84
I will rape anybody in efz.

Efz is chelsea's main game.  Should I issue him your challenge?

85
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaPZDojfNQM Bringing it to my room, somehow!

Who wants to run a poverty game tournament?  I got EFZ, Original Melty, and Glove on Fight.  Can someone bring Party's Breaker?

86
Yo Larry knows how to throw a fucking party.

Thanks so much for the help you guys.  Some people just came in as names and not handles so I don't necessarily know who you are but I really appreciate it!

Thanks Hal! (Maybe you can put up your bgm music list)

Also yeah brandino trim your beard you look like a hobo

Alright, it turns out Chelsea will actually be the one attending.

There was a lot of last minute problems on JP side but this is how it worked out.  Garu just made all his final confirms a few hours ago.

I assure you I had nothing to do with this, sorry about that  :bricks:

90
I can assure you this person is a Yokohama Freedom regular! (The arcade where Garu, Taka, Fujinami, Kanna, Chelsea, Hagi and many other's play)

91
My monitor doesn't have a VGA cable, just the standard HDMI.  Is this an issue?

92
Garu has just informed me Chelsea ran into a significant amount of financial trouble recently, and had to cancel his plans.

:prinny:  However, a different competitor will be joining him on his flight over in Chelsea's place.  :prinny:

コミドール:  アメリカメルブラ勢に言いたい事がある?
有賀陽一郎:  出場=優勝
で!

Komidol: Is there anything you have to tell the American Melty?

Garu: Tournament Participation = Overall Victory*.
Come out!

*This is the same word the Japanese use for people who become tournament champions, or shout before any sort of difficult battle (including during War time).

94
Registration is 10$ either way.  That goes to the game's pot.  Venue is 40$ at the door, 35$ for pre-registration.

95
Alright if we really need it, I can bring one computer monitor.

It's the least I can do for having to cancel bringing my setup.

96
I don't want anyone to get upset over the pre-registration number right now.  We can yell at each other after - what we have to do now is really at-least double that number just to make the tournament as fun as we would expect a major to be and enjoy ourselves.

Of all my "Worst Case Scenario" predictions, I never imagined with the amount of planning and hype going into this major for the last 3-5 months that the numbers would be below last years attendance when the game was slow and dieing.

Full effort now guys.  We really need to break 50 here.  Let's at least make this fun for Garu and Chelsea.  I think they can appreciate something smaller like this, just not...:that small:

I really wanna see our best and most friendly players out for the event.  Most Mikado locals draw 35 people.  Just...come on guys.   :'(

97
what size teams are we running

3v3, 7PM, Friday Night.

98
I can try and get the info put on IPW.   :teach: :toot:

Wow Larry, I'm literally surprised.  That's extremely helpful. :nyoro:  I'm really busy today but I'll see what I can come up with since there's only a few days left to registration.  Gonna do my best  :teach:

99
You could write an article for our site and I could relay it to SRK / Iplaywinner.

They're completely random with what they want to post up.

Hell SRK has done more Melty articles then Iplaywinner has.

:P

I don't especially want to expend the effort with my current limited amount of time before FR if I don't get some sort of promise that it'll be posted.  (or atleast intends to be)

100
Have any news of Garu and Chelsea coming back been posted on any fg news sites? I don't see any...

I was actually musing to myself recently it would be nice if I could write an article for IPlayWinner about what it was like to work with Japan and what Japanese players wanted to see by coming to an American tournament.

Can anyone hook me up with a contact they have there?  PM me.

Also, I think we could get some extra entrants from cross-gaming if we get an SRK post.  If SRK knows that Garu and Chelsea are coming, maybe those players will sign up for MB also.  Even if it's 2 or 3 more entrants it's worth it to try and get them to put it up now, before entry closes this weekend, right?

Do your best guys.  I have not the slightest idea as to how we can scratch that surface.
