Regional Community / Re: Northern California: Sacramento Community
« on: February 13, 2012, 02:23:50 AM »
Anyone who wants last minute NorCal Tickets, I found this:

With registration and food and that'll keep your total cost under 450$ for attending.  Just throwing this out there.  If you come at 3:30pm to that airport and checkout expeditiously, I can pick you up with Garu and Chelsea.  This will make it so you have time for all tournaments.

102
I'll need Sunday to travel back to my college for I class Monday morning
what I think you meant to say is "I need to skip class Monday to recover from the awesome weekend I will be having"

correct me if I'm wrong

Teams usually isn't that long anyway.  If it's starting early at 1pm, you will have time to participate.  I have class monday morning and leaving too, so.

Anyway found a place to stay (but not in the hotel, so unfortunately I can't lug my setup over), thank you Chris.  Be ready to lose at Tanto★

103
TexasTim proving once again he is the most baller member of this community.  If Tim only has space for the 3 of you, we can pick up one person in another room.  Maybe even mine, depending on who shows up the day of the event.

In accordance with the timeframes I posted earlier the latest you want to arrive (if you pre-registered, if you didn't and don't plan on doing so you need to come early Friday morning) is 3PM or so you can play in MB Teams that night, and leave late afternoon Sunday if you want to get back for work or class Monday.

104
MD/VA still needs a room. Or are we gonna be homeless in Atlanta?

I think it may be possible, if this community is as helpful/gentlemenly as everyone says it is, we can split you guys all up into one room a piece - but that right is exclusively reserved by the people who have paid for the rooms.

That being said though you guys are contributing a lot of the equipment and have a full group, so you need to for the love of god should get a room yourselves.  Any other alternative involves you guys just paying someone between the group of you for the full room which is something you could just organize amongst yourselves more easily.  Like Generic said, except that Friday Night and Saturday Night would be 120$ each, which again shouldn't be a problem between the entire region.  That's at most 30$ a person per night in a luxury hotel, if you only have 4 people (don't you usually have 5 or 6?)

105
Hmm... Who's coordinating teams on friday?

Shinobi is, of course.  I put the list of times when all the tournaments are starting in my Garu/Chelsea announcement post.  This tournament is being organized very well.

Can we get a running room count and list people who have room (whether or not you have space)?  I can continuously edit this post.  Some people sounded off, but I would like to have a collective and organized list going in.  This should sort of be regardless of if you plan on having people over, what the individual rules will be.  Just who you have to talk to about the room and who might be there.

I can start us off, this is what I heard or expect from previous tournaments, correct me if I'm wrong.

Reimu's Shrine: Bellreisa-Dippy
Mahjong & Tanto Casuals (Tournament Organizers Room): Komidol-Brandino
Team St1ckbug: St1ckbug-Lord Knight
MD/VA Medivac: Rayza-Rei
Dumba's Yugioh Cosplay Room: Dumba(Malik)
Serious Streaming Setup Room: SK, (TeamSp00ky?)
This is so hilariously wrong I'm still laughing reading this list.

MD/VA having a room together when they've posted in this thread that they're so disorganized that they don't have a room for anyone right now? St1ckbug giving a shit about MB? Hollywood Sp00ky giving a shit about MB when he has reality shows to produce? Bell and myself rooming together (unless you want a double homicide to happen)?

I've also heard some bad things about FR with regards to MB, but I'm going to just passively-aggressively mention it since I'm not exactly clear on it... other than the fact that if you are going to FR you need to pre-register; ShinBlanka keeps posting this for a reason other than his own well-being (although it does help that too).

Which is sort've why I wanted you to correct me if I'm wrong, rather than just saying it's wrong.  Like I said in the beginning, too, this isn't necessairly a "Who to goto if you need a room" post, this is just for where MB is going to played.  Considering Generic is coming to FR, I would assume in Team St1ckbug's room they might have one MB setup for people to play MB.  I would also assume Malik and Bellreisa does too.  These are assumptions, which is why I wanted people to tell me what's up.  Dippy, it's fine if the thread is completely disorganized, because that means the event will be more organized.  That's the point of doing all this stuff.

So can people tell us where our boy's are at or no?

106
I can only bring one if I have a guaranteed room..(and if someone wants to scrounge up a pair of speakers, haha)

(Beggars can't be choosers, but preferably not crowded with the potential to spill a beer or soda all over my PC)

FINAL ROUND: ALL OR NOTHING!!

114
Just a general appeal to anyone who's on the fence or think it's too late to go:

This tournament is going to be beyond what EVO2K10 had to offer.  We have everything that tournament had and  :toot:MORE :toot:!! Just because this tournament is not named "Evolution", doesn't mean it's not worth pulling every single thread to get yourself over there, because this has the potential to be way more than Evo2k10 ever was.   People were talking about "well forget Evo let's have our own major for anime games", and recently we got shafted for stream time at NECXII, right?  Well, this is it!

This is the last chance to begin a process of making Melty Blood a major game in America.  Because of the HydraGP report we now have even Ecole looking at us.

This will not just be another tournament. This will be the ground work for showing other anime-game communities what it takes to have your game heard.

We're going to be able to save every match, we're going to get more respect and the space we want, and we have all the best competition coming.

I'm going to push, if this tournament is not substantial, we will lose all clout with the International community, and no player will likely come here ever again for this game.  How could you even ask them to?  Do not make the mistake BlazBlue did. (Aksys puts in a few hundred dollar pot and only 38 people show up.)  This is your big chance to make Melty a big show in America.

We did it at Evo, but followed up poorly.  Part of that was the conditions the game was under at the time, which no longer exist.  At EVO we said "this is going to be the big climax of melty" and when thousands of people saw those matches and got interested, the game fell silent for months.  Now we have the right conditions - this is a new release, a new game, and the one chance to make one beautiful golden step to pushing melty up as  a major game in the tournament community.

The point I'm trying to make is those people who didn't plan on going to FR, you have just under a full month to get things going now.  If not for the Japanese players, if not for the fact it's a major, if not for the fact all of the best competition will be present, than because you will have a ton of a fun and this will be the first MBAACC major in history.  You will not get this chance again.  For MBAA PS2, we had numbers of around 30-35 at BBG.  Now the community is bigger, we have Japanese players travelling 6200 miles to play, a huge pot, the space and attention we need to make it big - and we're going to produce the same numbers?  Let's see 5x the amount, atleast.

And that starts with the big community members getting in that shit before they can tell other players why "this will be the best tournament ever and you should go."  Which is what we ALL need to be doing right now.  HYPE MAX!  No arguments, no defensive "Well I'm a student/poorfag/whatever" arguments here, that will only lay a pavement for mediocrity of the event.  Even if you can't go in the end - make sure you do every last seething bit humanely possible to make sure people know about this event and it's attraction.

This is worth flying from Canada for; this is worth flying from California for; this is worth the 10+ hour drive from Philly or Houston or wherever.  In the end if you can't go yourself, convincing 2-3 other people to go will do the community a whole bunch of good too!!  :toot: :toot:

Akiha's Tea Room / Final Round Financial Support/Donations
« on: February 10, 2012, 05:53:23 AM »
Hey everyone,

Needless to say there was a lot of effort put into getting Garu and Chelsea to attend FR.  Garu and Chelsea are not rich, infact, if the conversion rate was not so good right now they wouldn't even be able to afford their plane tickets.  A few people on this side strained their resources to guarantee that they could come out.  Among these negotiations was the 70$ in two tournament registrations.

So what I'm going to ask for, from those who are a bit wealthy (and not desperately saving for FRXV or WB attendance - because those should come first) are just a few dollars here and there to cover their entry fees and hotel costs (225$).  What I need the most is just 70$, but the financial support of the event contributed on my part (not including my own entry fees in anyway) peaked at 295$.  If I receive beyond that I will send your donation back to you, as that money should go to our other top players who need to go.

I hope you can all see that I've done a tremendous amount of work for this event and the last 3 years overall and recognize me as someone worth a small donation.  I ask for the spare change because right now I'm an income-less college student about to graduate who is living off student loan money.  My Paypal email is KireiKotomine@gmail.com

Thank you for anyone who helps out, even if it's a few cents.  I do however need to disclaim (due to problems with donation threads in the past) that this is a donation, I will only accept it if it's sent as a gift, and won't be able to pay you back any money received below the 295$ cost line.

If you donate and goto Final Round I will interpret best I can and make it a point to introduce you to Garu and/or Chelsea and explain how you helped bring them to FR in Japanese.  This is the only way I can offer my gratitude outside of a warm thank you.  I will also remember it.  I remember when I hit tough times and was doing work for promoting the game out in Japan, Exciel spared me 10$ which was extremely helpful at the time.  My doubts are always cleared when it comes to the generosity of this community when it counts, and this time I hope to see that community support that makes me remember everything I do for game is always worth it.

Thanks for the help everyone!  Everything worked out for those two in the end!

The Summoning is Complete.

MBAACC FRXV: AMERICA v JAPAN

:prinny: Japanese players Garu (H-Kohaku/H-Tohno/H-Arc) and Chelsea (C-Arc) will be attending Final Round XV.  Their plane arrives on the 2nd of March, at 3PM.  Garu has won several Japanese tournaments, most famous for his performance in MBAA and Aqua Pazza.  You may also remember him as the EVO2010 champion of MBAA PS2. :prinny:

In accordance with what Larry (ShinBlanka) said, you will need to pre-register online in order to participate at the venue for any tournament (short of an early Friday morning at-door registration).

Tournament entries are 10$ each in addition to your online venue of 35$.

Friday night, March 2nd, will be MBAACC Teams.  This tournament begins at 7PM.  Obviously you should expect to arrive in Atlanta by 3pm if you want to participate and you're coming via plane.

MBAACC Singles will begin at 11AM on Saturday, the morning of March 3rd.

MBAACC Top 8 will take place on Sunday, March 4th, at 9AM.  After other game's Top 8 finish we will probably run a large Red vs White, perhaps a 50v50, dodge-ball style.

Please plan accordingly.

Hare, KoreanCL, and GO1 have respectfully declined the attendance partially due to work, despite wanting to attend.  There are also many other players who considered it, unfortunately they couldn't justify taking off work, spending the money, and going the distance for the event.  Needless to say, these players who expressed interest in going to America for this event will look to FRXV as a symbol to judge if it's worth going in the future.

Japan is looking with wide eyes at this event, and if we want them to come in the future (to NEC or otherwise), I would strongly hope we can produce a registrant list exceeding 128 participants.  A registrant list falling short of 96 participants would be atrocious for the public image of the community.  If you really love this game, you need to attend Final Round for it's future.  For those of you short on money, I extend my regrets - however, tax season is this month and if you file now you may get the few hundred dollars you need to get out here and play, especially if you're in a lower tax bracket.  If you're under the age of 24 and in college, and file as a dependent, your parents will get a large stipend.  Larry did his best to schedule this event during many school's spring breaks for the younger community.  This community is very helpful and you can carpool, or network with hotels in this thread.  Just know that you have only just over a week to pre-register for Final Round unless you plan on paying Friday morning, and just under a month to make all your preparations.  Everyone who financially and physically can go to this event, goes.  There shouldn't be any question here.

I would like to thank everyone who is making this a possibility both for the event and internationally.  SilentShinobi will also be organizing the tournament on the ground as he always has for Final Round to make sure it is run smoothly, and we trust him to do so per his great handling of organizing the Team Tournament at EVO2010, and Pool 3 of Singles that year (with our founder Arlieth).  He has purchased a large monitor to display matches and the brackets every so often so everyone knows where they need to be during the event.  Brandino has done a good job promoting this event with DonJon.  Kamina did excellent work with the videos.  Zar has done good work with posting Melty Blood media in both Japanese and English.  KoreanCL helped us in social networks we could not access and promoted enthusiasm for the event and kept us informed.  LK and TeamSt1ckbug have come to Japan and promoted the game more times than I can count.  Many thanks to Rayza and MD/VA for offering to make sure this event is recorded, and streamed properly.  Even further, more than one Japanese speaker, regardless of level of Japanese, gave us presence within the Japanese community (Dakanya, Curbeh, Yuji, and Kamina just to name a few).  And one last thanks to everyone who posted and helped in the international threads and voiced their opinions, or even gave out a simple tweet out on twitter.

This is the first major for MBAACC, make it hype.  We want to build a strong foundation for this game's lifespan.  A failure here would be detrimental to the development of the game in America.  We have to be louder than a few thousand capcom players.  I think everyone of our members can outnumber ten of theirs, so - let's create the first 256-man Melty Bracket ever and show, Ecole, EVO Staff, TeamSp00ky, and whoever else that this is a major game in America.  That means that every single person who netplayed for MBAC, Tsukihime, or wherever they come from needs a reason to goto this event.  Make videos.  Post everyday on Twitter.  Talk to your local fighting game scenes.  Make physical advertisements and flyers at your locals.  A lot of new faces to tournament organization stepped up and strained their resources to get this far.

This tournament now has everything that a major needs to be successful, run well, and be fun.  It has huge monitors for information, competent staff, a dedicated space, completely stable streaming and recording, and is getting an official supported live-stream slot on Sunday morning.  But this is just a gateway.  It starts with everyone who has ever supported this game buying their plane ticket, registering, and only gets underway when every single one of those people guarantees one person who didn't go to EVO goes to their event - and good or bad - every melty community around the globe, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, European, Brazilian, American, or otherwise is going to see the results.

tl;dr Don't fuck this up and be there.

Oh, and let's not lose this Evo2010 runback, either.

Black Magic is currently being wielded. If you have love you can already see it.

What will you do?

What can you do?

Anything?

I am here to help.

But only so much can be done.

The ritual is almost complete.

I will unlock the power years old, but the final summoning can only been done through everyone's power.

If and when there is something to be told, we will tell you guys.  A significant amount of effort is being put in by a small group of us internationally affiliated, and until there is confirmation of a player coming, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, or otherwise, the rest is just rumors (sorry to say).

Larry, I'm working very closely with Ben on this, so when there is something to know you will be informed as soon as possible.  Don't worry about that.

The best temp fix is to throw in a couple washers on the Stick's underside beneath the screws so the joystick will lower itself by the width of the washer

Ciel's Tech Support / Re: Stick problem - Suddenly flicks upwards
« on: February 09, 2012, 09:29:56 AM »
This effect happens when the stick is mounted too high.  You may have small hands and have to lower the stick down a bit.  This is also a common problem of new stick users, who focus their hand on the shaft of the stick too much, and not using the ball to move the stick.  When you execute you should, regardless of what way you hold it, primarily only be holding the ball.

This results in the case you have extremely small hands, and need to lower it.  The stick may of be tremendously shitty quality.  It may of just been placed higher for some reason during assembly.  The dust cover or dust washer inside may be out of place (if you have one).  If you had this stick modded or made from scratch the possibility of it just being a bad mount are increase 10 fold, no matter how center it looks.

I remember on my first arcade stick mod I had not used a mount and screwed in the joystick plate too tightly, resulting in a high-sitting upward-tilt.  The mount was just done too securely and if I pulled all the way back on the stick on let the ball go there was a 1/5 chance it would ricochet up.  I noticed this once maybe every other match, it would mis-input because of this effect.

123
If I may ask, I would like to request some space in a room.  I am extremely scrunched for money due to the International coordinating for Final Round (I believe soon I might be able to make a very good announcement regarding that!), and would kindly ask for any floor space to pass out on.  Before leaving for Japan I've always done my best to help provide these rooms at BIG-E events and setups, and if someone could spare me any accommodations this time, I would be extremely thankful.
