23rd? I'd like to go but unfortunately that's my last day of final exams. My spring break is next week and I'm not sure if my family and I are going to be in Phoenix during that time. Is there anything going on next week? In case we are going to Phoenix I'd like to attend any upcoming events that might be going down.

Generally, unless stated otherwise in this thread (or in person), we will be doing something every weekend. Sometimes Saturdays will be open for extra playtime, but people don't come over often on Saturdays.

So the three things that are coming up aaaaaare:

1. I have a meeting with Hobbyist's Paradise about staffing the game room for a local anime convention (Anizona 3) on March 24th
2. DEVESTATION TOURNEY 2007 is on March 31st. There will be a Melty Blood side-tourney present run by me.
3. Anizona is happening from April 5th -> April 8th. There will be no meetings at my place during this time.

The website for the convention really blows right now. Thanks a lot, Comic Sans font }:| http://www.anizona.org

Sorry I was a no-show, there was a friend's birthday party that I had completely forgotten about before.

I'm definitely up for next time, though. When will this be?

Also, have you ever played on stick before? If not... ReACT keyboard or gamepad?

I use a HRAP2, which I'll be hauling along whenever the next meetup is.

Your options are (if we actually go to YC's) coming to YC's and chilling out with fun stories, scathing insults and good smells, or meeting us at my place after YC's. Since you're, what... 5-10 minutes away? Yeah. I could just call you when we're on our way back. Send me a PM or an email with your number.

Maybe around July or August, not sure yet. It would be awesome if we could also get on some GG, me primarily being a GG player. I'll most likely have Accent Core by then.

We're going to be in Tuscon, btw. How far is that from you all?

Absolutely fucking tiring. After screaming so much to run my tournaments, my voice is nearly gone. Myself and Wakkatana won a lot of the tourneys. Wakka won, uhh... Smash Bros. Melee, Halo 2, Gears of War, 2nd in Melty, 3rd in Naruto: Gekito Ninja Taisen 4. I think I'm missing something. Oh well. I won Melty Blood, Soul Calibur 3, 2nd in Third Strike, 2nd in EPIC NARUTO 4 MATCHES vs. Wakka and Mailorder. Mailorder pulled off Naruto 4's first place victory.

Practice will resume this coming weekend.

Pretty much all of us live in the eastern valley. Myself, vmoney, and ssjlonewolf are closer to you. Not sure about RatOrcs/Dan. Since we have at least three people in the south eastern valley (Gilbert area), it would be extremely bad for them to have to drive up to Camelback. My place is far enough, and I already feel bad about making them use so much gas money getting here.

If RAFF will put us up for the 28th, we might be in business at least for a week. I'll get on contact with him after West Toast 3 and work out details.

I'm down for the 28th but I can't make any promises since the wife comes first so in that sense  :mystery:

I only have one system, but I have enough tv's just need more systems.  Another thing would be to bring drinks, chips and cookies and shit and if we have enough ppl 8 atleast we can have a melty blood tournament.

hmmm should I have a GameScrubs.com tournament signup form hahaha

Maybe if I do it at my house I need you guys to register for the tournament.

Good job AZ at West toast 3, Hope you do better next time!
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: Choco April 22, 2007, 07:00:58 PM
Due to certain circumstances, I lost my money match and tied for 5th place with four other people in the tournament. The main circumstance was exhaustion, but also I will admit that the lack of competitive play here in AZ hurt me. Considering the condition my game was in, I was amazed that I even made it to top 8.

Many, MANY thanks to Scott and Leo for playing me at Arcade Infinity on Saturday. Whatever I did not learn at the tournament, I did learn during our matches. I spent 27 tokens over the course of three and a half hours playing nothing but Melty Blood, losing 3/4ths of the time and examining what I did wrong. After two hours of having my ass handed to me, I then started winning consistently (as in, around half of the time). I even gave three people the Melty Bread site address in hopes of getting more members. So, regardless of my poor performance at the tournament, I'm still hyped about Melty. Possibly even moreso than before this trip.

I can't really blame you guys for not giving me hardcore competition. But I will say this: Practice more. You guys have a lot of work to do, especially getting your BNB muscle memory down. Sit down with the game for an hour everyday practicing your BNB, play CPUs on level 5 difficulty and practice what you learned under the risk of losing, and if you can't seem to execute much on the CPUs, go back to practice mode and build your muscle memory even more. Do this even if you're only playing ReACT.

After BNB comes instant air dashing (IADs), which will allow you to actually pressure your opponent, especially in corners. Experiment and find out what your character can do. Anti-air, mixups, etc. Watch match videos for a half an hour a day and find out what's popular in other people's tactics.

To sum up the above... if you want to become a good Melty player, dedicate yourself more. Quit playing WoW and concentrate if you're really serious about building, promoting, and maintaining a proper AZ scene. Read and post on the forum more, etc. There's lots of things you guys can do to level up, and I trust you can do it.

Man, I wanted to hang out for the entire night. Unfortunately, I had gotten only two hours of sleep since I woke up at 6 PM on Thursday, so I opted to go sleep instead of hang out for a long time. I really regret not being able to go, but I'd also have really regretted not getting sleep if I had went :P I'm thinking we'll come back about a month after ver.B2 gets released on the PC. That why, my boys will be able to practice properly. At least I levelled up at AI!

And I assure you... our next match will be even better :P I think I'll drive out a day early so I can play casuals at FFA or Interface for most of Friday before the tourney. I heard FFA is getting ver.B/B2 soon?

Just in case you didn't see at SRM Choco, I thank you for informing me of the scene in AZ, I wasn't expecting all this at all!
Sadly, I don't think I have the committment or time as of now to contribute :(
Along with the fact that getting rides long distances away is pretty hard for me... Bleh.

Maybe in a month or so after I graduate from high school, I might meet up with you guys; Even though I've never really been committed to training and tourneys and stuff like that for MB...

Just for reference though; I live around the Val Vista and Baseline area.

Rides shouldn't be a problem if you have Friday evenings / Saturdays free. A few of our players also live in the Gilbert area and could probably pick you up along the way. If we head over to Raff's place (soonest we'll go is on the 28th, a Saturday) I could pick you up on the way. Keep in contact with this thread and shoot me a PM so I can pass my phone number off to you.

Quit playing WoW
Ha Ha Ha

Graven: A ride won't be a problem.  I live on Germann and Higley, and I got a pal on Ray and Higley.  I'll be able to get you when we go to Choco's.  And as Choco said, he'll be able to get ya if he's going to Raff's.  Your house is actually right in the center of all of us.

sorry to hear about the money match and the exhaustion, choco

I've been working on my Aoko, put in about three hours over the weekend and two hours over the course of the work week. I think I'm getting an idea of how to intelligently incorporate her projectile attacks into my game, esp things to try after knocking an opponent down, and of course I'm still working on the BnB stuff.

RAFF, mighty awesome of you to hold the tournament. Sadly for me, I don't know if I can make it... I have to help my brother move to Queen Creek on the 28th, it's been on my calendar since last month. Apache Junction doesn't look too far away from Queen Creek, but I just don't know if I'll have the oomph to participate, even if we finish up by the time the tournament starts.

(FYI, I'm Dan/ratorcs/can't pick a handle)

Great news. I'm confirmed to be in the Tournament on saturday. Yay! I'll be bringin' myself and my scrubby BnB action.

I have memorized at least 5 BnB's, but the problem for me right now is timing. Will fix that as quickly as possible. Mixups will be fun to try and incorporate as well.

Oh man.. 5 dollar entry fee?  I hope that's not for real ; ;

I guess it is.  It's a tournament, after all - not a casual meetup.

On the website, it says Raff's place is at Mesa.  But Choco is saying Apache Junction.  Confusion.

I think it's pretty much so far east Mesa that it should count as AJ. All I know is that I'm going to die quicky. I'll bring cookies or sumthin'...... O.O
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: RAFF April 24, 2007, 08:36:05 AM
higley and university is still mesa not apache junction haha.  You guys can play casual but prepare for a tournament if there is atleast 8 people or we can bustout roundrobin as well.
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: Choco April 24, 2007, 09:45:36 AM
Because of my winning chances, I wouldn't mind an entry fee... but I know people like Dave/Mailorder would have a tough time coming up with the cash for the tourney. How about we make this into a free (double) round-robin ranbat tourney? I'll pay for venue if I have to :<
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: Synthesis April 24, 2007, 11:21:53 AM
I don't mind an entrant fee, but I'd prefer not to have to pay. ;D. Oh, and I was hoping to play a little tomorrow at my house or something because we have an early out here at school and I kind of want to practice.

I can't participate in the tournament if there's the entry fee, as I have NO money.  :( (i'll still show up, though)

How many setups are there going to be? It'd be great to have a Slash setup running, and I can bring a TV and ps2 with GGXX/ if need be.

Hey, Q Chu, call me tonight or tomorrow at 480-464-4604 for when you want to play tomorrow. I don't get home till around 10 tonight, so if you are going to call, wait till then. Oh, and I'll have no problem paying for you if you can't. ; :V :V :V :V

No way because if we get matched up I'll just forfeit because I'll feel guilty if I win (even though I probably won't)

I think Choco's got the right idea, though. A round-robin ranking battle sounds fun.

Maybe even earlier if he agrees. Will be calling him on Friday to plan everything out. You should have plenty of time to participate.

I MUST stress this, especially because of Panda's emails to me.

Throughout each week (usually near the beginning), I always update the first two posts of this thread with updated gathering info.

IF YOU ARE WONDERING IF THERE'S GOING TO BE A MEETING THIS WEEK OR WHAT EVENTS ARE COMING UP, CHECK THE FIRST TWO POSTS OF THIS THREAD. There is no need to email or IM me with these questions. I get irritated when I have to repeat easily accessible information. You're free to IM me about game help, personal help, etc.... but please, for fuck's sake, week after week I put the info up and sometimes even post to say the info is updated. Click some to get the info! And post more :blah:!

To anyone wondering who everyone is:

RAFF (Satsuki, Nanaya), TooTall (Sion) and Punker (Ciel, Miyako) are dudes that have been playing together for a few years.  They are freakin' amazing at Guilty Gear, but they also play Melty Blood very well.

Jaxx (Nero) and "BlackAssNappyDood a.k.a. Vmoney" (Red Arcreid) are the two Black dudes that came with Choco and I to West Toast.

Q Chu (Red Arcreid) and Wakkatana (Hisui & Kohaku) are regulars to Choco's weekly Friday Night Blood Melting.

Shashin is a Len player that picked up the game in a week and destroyed my Kouma >: (

David is me.  Mailorder.  I've quit Kouma for Mech Hisui.

----

RAFF's tournaments have a rule which is: no stick switching.  All matches are to be played on the cabinet.  The cabinet is very nice and professional - responsive stick, responsive buttons.  However, a number of us were unfamiliar with the American-style stick.  Most of us play on Japanese-style sticks which use the square gate.  But of course, the American setup is circular.  Hitting those diagonals can be difficult on a circle, when you're used to hitting the corner of a square.

But either way, no excuses.  Lots of American arcades use circular-gate sticks, so it's best to learn both American and Japanese.  At least, that's my opinion.

Well, It's just my opinion that people should learn both American and Japanese : p  I know that Choco doesn't agree with me.  From his point of view, Melty Blood is a Japanese game, so it's meant to be played on a Japanese stick.  Not worth the time to learn how to play it American.

I appreciate the setup compliments, and the complaints are legitimate.  But from past experience, I have noticed people will spend more time switching sticks and pads and setting up buttons than playing.  I don't want to spend all night running a tournament.  If I throw another one it will be on the living room instead of the cabinet so people can see better.

Even though last nights tournament was on american sticks, I still believe the outcome was still valid as I saw some of the results of the people playing on the jap sticks.  2Tall was still dominating that arena even on jap sticks which he never uses.  Not trying to say you guys suck, just making sure you guys don't try to diss the winners by saying that if it was on a jap stick i would have won.

I agree with RAFF's philosophy that stick switching can take up valuable time. I don't think it's so bad if you limit it to one Jap and one US stick set though, both having default configured settings (i.e.: Hori HRAP and modified Nubytech Anniversary). Ah dun giv a FUUUCK about them "Q" button~

BTW, what the hell is it with ice cream truck drivers these days? They fricking speed through the neighborhood like they're about to be lynched. Ain't like the old days where you'd have time to fish through change in the couch before running out and flagging that mo'fo down.

Yo, Raff. Just thought I'd clear things up 'cause I know I bitched a lot at the tourney.

I respect your setup greatly. I am just a bad player on AmeriSticks. It's frustrating to me when I cannot do things I practiced so hard to do at home. It's frustrating when I think I'm pressing down and back to block, but am in more in the down or the back position instead, resulting in getting punched in the face/shin. The physical cues I have ingrained in my mind worked against me all night, even when I first started using my stick again. TooTall kicked my ass in that first match after the tourney, but I'm happy that next time I played him, I was able to win. From then on (and I mean no disrespect to the guy, 'cause he plays a good Ciel AND beat me in the tourney fair and square), I had 21 wins to 4 losses to Nick once I got back on my stick and was pretty much undefeated until we left for the night.

So I think while it's absolutely fair that you run tourneys the way you want, it's not exactly good for everyone to be forced to use the controller of your choice. Of course, on the cabinet, pad was the only other choice as setting up other sticks would have been aaaawkward. But here's the logic: It's a PS2 tournament for a Japanese game that uses cabinets that use Japanese sticks. I only play on a Japanese stick because I only play games that will be played on JP cabinets (Soul Calibur 3 is the only exception to that). Since it was PS2-based, B.Y.O.C. would have brought out more player skill. Seeing players play at their best is the best way to hold a tournament in my opinion.

But again, your house, your rules. I respect that. AmeriSticks-only just didn't help me improve my game any, which is what I was hoping to do. Hold another tournament with AmeriSticks only and I'll probably still come, but at least next time I won't enter expecting to mop up all the competition :P

The pool of competent Melty Blood players continues to grow! Good stuff.

Is there some joystick drama going on in here? There must be a way to convert it into MB hype... Choco, I think you should challenge TooTall to a $3000 money match and threaten Raff with a Hello Kitty ka-bar.
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: RAFF April 30, 2007, 12:50:42 PM
I disagree with the way you think about the joysticks choco considering that ANY video game that gets brougth up down here usually ends in an american cabinet with american sticks.

I hate jap sticks, cuz I never play on them so I will be biased when tournament time comes.  Next tournament we do all Jap sticks I don't care really MB is not my favorite game and I'm not a tournament guy anymore, I'm a family guy now so I just sit on the front porch and rock on my chair with a blanket on my lap barking at ppl.  :blah:

I think tournament mindset is something you guys are not taking into consideration.  Yeah you beat nick 24 to 2 on casual but you lost when it mattered.  Trust me I know how shit feelz because I have been to tons of tournament.  2Tall and Punker might have more experience who knows, but considering that they never play melty blood seriously and yet they do pretty well says alot about this guys.

Another thing that you guys need to consider that 2tall and punker have played figthing games since the beginning.  Not sure about you guys, but they have more knowledge about mind games and not just bnb combos.  How many times did you guys fall for tick throws, or wiff baits, spacing and high and low games?

Look at Sean B, guy picks up GG or MB and learns 2 or 3 moves and starts to kick ass.  Learns fast and execution is good, but mind games and  experience counts for alot.

Punker, 2tall and I never played against a chaos player before and I have no experience on how to beat him.  Punker and I got pwned by Jaxx, yet tootall knew by watching a couple of games how he can easily get in by baiting him.

Again not saying you guys are bad players or anything like that, but you might be underestimating experience.  You might win at casual here in AZ, Now just take it to the point that you can win when it matters.

: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN

Sounds like time is the issue... if you have some spare space, maybe multiple setups would help next time: An american/american setup, a japanese/american setup and a japanese/japanese setup? You could fit two setups on a card table, provided the players are sitting on chairs and keep their sticks on their laps.

I'd like to think that a tournament running on three setups would move faster than a tournament running on one setup, too. Of course, a tournament running on three identical setups and no controller swapping allowed would move even faster than the one I described above, so  :toot:

The community could help provide the gear for the setups. I know that I'm good for 2 HRAPs, 2 NTSC-J PS2s, a folding table, four folding chairs, a 22" TV and even one of those god awful 2-player X-Arcade sticks.

Anyway, thanks again for hosting, RAFF. Sorry I couldn't make it, and I hope that you continue hosting events from time to time. It seems to me that if there's one thing AZs fighting game community really needs, it's places to meet and play their favorite games.

tru dat about the bitching.. shit was getting tiring.. i don't wanna sound or come off like an ass, but raff posted the rules about the tournament stating that there would be no stick switching or pad playing or anything like that. his cabinet was the only thing we would be playing on at all times.. rules were made by raff but still people felt compelled to bring their sticks, and say "I hate this", "I hate that", "Pad", "Japanese stick", yada yada yada and even choco, you had some balls trying to tell raff that there WOULD be stick and pad switching. now, you could of been just joking around but that shit ain't cool either way. i was listening to you the entire time, and was just saying to myself "wow sir, i honestly hope this is a joke."  you read the rules, and yet still felt compelled to come and complain. raff's reasoning behind the no stick switching was time consumption pure and simple. that and the fact that i can understand why he wanted to get rid of pad playing because there are some, and not saying that any of you guys do this, but some people will use the extra buttons, and get 1 button throws, 1 button dashing, while people using sticks, are having to do these things manually, and what i consider to be much more skillfully.

but i can understand that you guys weren't use to the sticks because i've honestly been there many many times, where i've only had 5 to 10 minutes or even just 1 game to get use to fighting with their style of equipment.. but you guys had over two hours to get ready and get use to the sticks that we use.. anyone of you guys could of said, i need to get use to the sticks, so let's try and see what i'm doing wrong and how i can improve. if i had that kind of time in some tourneys i went to i know that the outcome of them would of been differant.. not saying i would of won but i would of been able to play a lot better then i had at that time. if you guys want to go to differant tournaments, anywhere, adaptability is going to be something youre going to have to learn. Now, i've told people straight out who run the tournaments, that hey, the tourney was awesome i had a blast but the sticks just weren't for me. but from what i was seeing, you guys were going on and on about how you hated american sticks, or hated that you couldn't use pad just about every 10 minutes, and shit was getting old quick.

but either way, it was fun to get to play you guys, since the only people raff, punker and myself get to play is each other. you guys got some good shit, with  that game, and definitely made me think about playing some new characters. and like i said i'm just stating facts here and i don't want to come off like an ass or anything of the kind. i just think these things need to said or posted or whatevers, so things like this won't happen in the future and some sort of agreement can be made to accomidate everyone.  just my 2 cents..

oh yeah, and no "John" ever shows up to the tourneys anyway.. My names been 2tall, or Tootall, or Too tall for years on end and even once i was the 2nd "unknown gamer" where i tried to keep the legacy of the masked mcdonalds bag gamer alive. but that's how it's been and that's how it'll be for the years to come.

Look at Sean B, guy picks up GG or MB and learns 2 or 3 moves and starts to kick ass.  Learns fast and execution is good, but mind games and  experience counts for alot.

An excellent example.  That dude picked up MB for the first time and was about 30% to Choco within 15 minutes.  And it's because he's been playing Street Fighter since he was a kid.  And you guys are the same.  I definitely agree that experience and mind games is what it's all about.   Much respect to you, TooTall and Punker.  Hopefully, we're not giving off the wrong impression.  I don't doubt the skill you guys have - not for a second.

but from what i was seeing, you guys were going on and on about how you hated american sticks, or hated that you couldn't use pad just about every 10 minutes, and shit was getting old quick.

I think I made a mention about not being 100% comfortable with American sticks a few times, but I realize that even once was too much.  I wasn't trying to fool anyone.  I knew everyone was better than me and I'd lose whether I were playing American or Japanese.  And it's because of experience.  MB is my first 2D fighter, and I'm playing against people who have done the 2D thing for years.  The few comments I made - I guess it was just small chat.  Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

Yeah, I've got to apologize for all my bitching. I got so frustrated I just had to vent, but even after I vented I felt bad about saying it again and again. I'll behave next time. As I said before, my frustration came from my expectation to do really well, and since my execution on AmeriSticks really hindered my performance, well. We all heard what happened. Going to try to be much less emotional in competitive gaming from now on and see what happens.

......nvm. Oh, and about the bitching about not being able to use pad, I'm fine with that, due to the great INTERNAL NEED!!!!!!1! to want to learn how to play better on stick. Thanks. Oh, and Sion is a whore (in a good way.)

EDIT: Am considering using either Akiha or Aoko as a secondary. Thoughts?

: Jaxx May 02, 2007, 02:05:10 AM
Punker, 2tall and I never played against a chaos player before and I have no experience on how to beat him.  Punker and I got pwned by Jaxx, yet tootall knew by watching a couple of games how he can easily get in by baiting him.
Not making excuses or anything(because I got beat fair and sqaure), my excecution has always been crap with p360's.  The only exception with that is soul calibur, and thats because the moves are completely different.  TooTall beat me plain and simple, but I played like complete and total trash that day...and I accaully took 2nd.  Every combo that I did, when I finshed ex deer was supposed to come out, yet it didn't because of my bad excution on the p360.  When I'm playin with my hori, i do it almost every time.

Not to say I would of beaten tootall or anything, but I do know my excecution would of been much better than what it was, and the outcome may have been different.  I started to pick up on TooTall's techniques as well when I was at the tourney, I just couldn't excecute, which is my fault.

The funniest thing at the tourney by far was Raff and his nanya a's...that shit had me dieing.

But I digress, on to what I was orignally going to post.

And yes, I realize that Jaxx has the chance to ruin all of us D:

I was falling asleep! Now I know how Choco feels when he plays me using Satsuki. Playing MB against someone at my skill level helps us both improve. And I learned that using standing B instead of standing C in Warc's BnB makes the combo a hell of a lot easier and I've been nailing it a lot more (more like, actually nailing it).

Okay, guys. We're going to have a lot to talk about after the ranbat round robin. Things on the agenda:

West Toast 4 (SPOOKY ON THE WEST COAST)
AnimeExpo 2007
Evo World

I will say right here that my interest in AX is waning terribly. For the main reason why, click here (http://forums.anime-expo.org/index.php?s=&showtopic=4820&view=findpost&p=219489). Read that post and the one right after it. I plan on bitching about this, and if the staff there is so hardheaded they still won't allow sticks I don't know if I'll want to go at all. I might want to just save my money for Evo World so we can have a good room.

Oh, and about showing up today (past 12 AM already!)... I would like you all to start showing up at my apartment between 4 PM and 5 PM. At 5 PM, we'll decide on dinner.

i also talkked to the "main" guy for AX, yeah he doesn't seem to know much or care about it too much, but i guess in his position he is required to keep things simple and his liabilities low.

The only other solution i can think of is to rent a room on the floor and privately run a MBAC tournament with our own ps2s and sticks and tvs.

I'm guessing that will take a lot of money to do. Not good. What we could do, however, is coordinate hotel rooms and hold a tournament in both of them. Recruit people from the people playing MB casuals or something.

Results for the round robin are now listed on a new topic inside of Kohaku's Video Room if you're interested. Videos, too, of course!

Since the tourney ran late and not everyone could stay around to talk, we'll discuss traveling matters at the beginning of next week's meeting.

There's something new I'd like for you guys to do. PM me what you're doing on Fridays and, if available for the meeting, include in the message what time you'd like to arrive, if you'll want to eat out with the rest of us, etc. I think that will work out a lot better than all this last-hour planning we'd had from the start.

I recommend recording replays on ReACT.  It was through watching my own replays vs. CPU that I noticed I only do two different blockstrings - both ending with either A-missiles (anti air) or B-missles (ground).  I'm trying to break that habit and mix in other stuff... like whiff cancelling or something.

Funniest thing happened in Fry's on Tuesday. I went in to buy some garbage bags and a thing of cookies (they seemed to go together and the cookies were too tempting), and as soon as I walk in, Rick Astley starts blasting through the store (as in music, not literally exploding through out the store...... that was self explanatory.) Don't forget to have more than one PS2 set up!  Remind Jaxx to bring his.  If we're gonna have 9 people over, let's have three people per PS2.  Do you have blank DVDs, in case we have to burn another copy of Melty Blood?  Either way, I'll bring my copy if I can find it

You know, I suppose I could go, but I was sick until Wednesday (ten days- I was coughing up crap for six, then my throat hurt every time I swallowed for the next four) and I don't know if I want to risk staying up for 22 hours straight quite yet.

Not to make you feel guilty or anything, but I started getting sick when I woke up the Saturday after the last meet.  :P I suppose I could try leaving at a reasonable hour

As for the 4chan thing, I'm pretty sure the filename triggered the filter and the banning process. Maybe they had problems with people spamming it in the past: "LOL legal CP!" x1000. I don't know.

I did some research while I was contemplating the chances of my ass being vanned.  ::) I know that the album cover wasn't released in the US, but it's on wikipedia, a b&w version of it can be found on US amazon, and you can buy the damned thing on ebay. :mystery:

I can understand how they'd have little tolerance for anything that has the slightest chance of getting their site shut down, though. I'd probably have done the same thing if I were in their shoes.

EDIT: Scorpiowned! ha!
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: Mailorder May 18, 2007, 02:08:29 PM
DUDE, I have that pic too.  Although I've been paranoid of getting vanned due to the obvious CP nature of the pic.  The one I have has a shatter-effect on it somewhere.  Dunno if that's part of the design or not.  Anyway, if it's legal.. then I guess it's no problem.

Can't believe it's an actual album cover!  Europe only, eh?

EDIT: Haha.. I just wiki'd it.  Of course the shatter effect was intentional...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Killer

And the record label pushed it?!  Geez, couldn't someone at RCA been arrested for this?  Too crazy.

By the way, I'm sure you can appeal your ban.  I got banned for posting a pic of covercat over questionable CP.  Thing is, you couldn't tell if she was CP or not.  By today's standards, she was probably JB.  Either way, I shopped covercat over the vagina and got banned for it.  There wasn't any nudity, everything was covered!  Almost the same thing that happened to you, you know?  But they said it was too borderline or something.  So yep.  But I appealed the ban through e-mail and everything was A-OK.

So who is a confirmed attendee for tomorrow?

I'm there every friday, so you can expect me there.

Congrats on graduating : )

Is anything going down this Saturday? I'm going to arrive in Phoenix tomorrow night. Hopefully my bro is willing to give me a ride if there is.  :-\

We usually don't have anything happening on Saturday because our energy is exhausted on Friday night - we stay up real late, some bail around 3-4, but I've stayed 'till 7.  And I know 7:00AM is average bedtime time for Choco.  But if your bro can take you to Tempe/Mesa area (which is a 30-40 minute drive southeast), we should make something happen.  I'd love to play your Ciel.

Course, we don't have to just play Melty Blood.  We could even stop by Mesa Golfland.  I'm in the mood, since I just went yesterday and I'm in love with Guitar Freaks.  And yeah, Golfland's got that 8 dollar 10:00AM - 1:00PM all-you-can-play deal on Saturdays.  But I dunno if any of us can wake up for that, so maybe not.

I'd say PM Choco and see what we can work out.  Get his cell number or something.  (I don't have a cell - lost it months ago)

Thanks  :)

and I don't suggest going to Golfland, the place has absolutely gone to shit lately.

: Mailorder May 24, 2007, 06:28:27 PM
Eh?  How so?  I went yesterday with a saved wristband just fine.  Got myself some free arcade gaming for three hours, heh heh heh!

I guess you're referring to the actual games?  DDR SuperNOVA, Extreme and In the Groove's pads are as responsive as ever.  Guitar Freaks is responsive, as is IIDX.  Surprisingly, even MvC2 is responsive (but no one plays that poopy game anyway).  Sadly, one of T5:DR's sticks is screwed up.  But oh well, I'm there for rhythm games and Maximum Tune 2, anyway!
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: Q Chu May 24, 2007, 07:18:26 PM
MvC2 isn't responsive anymore, at least the 2P side isn't, it's pretty fucked. CvS2 is fucked. They don't have drumsticks attached to the DM machine, or available for checkout. IIDX was fucked the last time I went, the middle black button sent a jam signal, and it also gave me a coin error and ceased to work completely.

I miss the Golfland of 2004 :(

So, people seemed to have leveled up in AZ :V Good work Wakka, Mailorder, Jaxx... and I won't say any harsh words to Q Chu or Shashin. You two know what you need to work on, and you also know to stop blocking with your face. It'll just take a little time, I know :D

West Toast 4 this weekend, guys! No meeting at my place! People who I must force to come: Mailorder, Jaxx, Shashin. Since that makes four of us, I won't demand we split up into two cars or anything.

Q Chu definitely leveled up this weekend.  His Red Arc was faster than the last time I played him.  However, I did feel like his Red Arc was better earlier in the evening than near the end : p

So V isn't gonna make WT4?

No.

So what time should I show up at your place to get ready to leave for WT4. And how much money should I have to go to said tourney?
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: Choco May 28, 2007, 06:59:20 AM
Bring 14 for both tourneys and however much you want for food/snacks. I will bill everyone for lodging and gas later on. Keep 75 bucks handy after the trip. I don't think it'll be that high, but... just keep it in mind so you have enough :P

We will not be staying with Arly as he says he doesn't have room for us. There's a Motel 6 we could crash at, or we could scout for a nicer and maybe cheaper place on the drive to Simi Valley. I would like to only have to spend one night in a hotel if possible. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A PLACE WE CAN STAY AT FOR FREE/CHEAP IN THE LA-AREA, PLEASE TELL ME.

If anyone has a tent or two, it's possible we could very easily stay at a KoA Campground in the area.
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: Mailorder May 28, 2007, 06:23:07 PM
I guess a Motel 6 ain't bad... it's like 30-40 bucks a night, no?  That's ten bucks per person if I go.
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: Choco May 29, 2007, 07:50:46 AM
Arly said it was more like 74.99 per night ~_~ We'll work something out if that's too much. I'm kind of keen on the camping idea, personally. I might invest in a 50 dollar tent if we plan to head out to Cali a lot for these sorts of things. Campsite = 25-35 bucks for a tent spot.
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: milesokeefe May 29, 2007, 01:43:07 PM
I just got back from a camping trip with my family. Even with the fifth wheel, I was filthy- I even got dirt into the GBA port of my DS, somehow, and I didn't even fish. Also, four-five hours of fitful sleep per night.

My suggestion is: If you can avoid camping at all, do it. Note: I hate camping.

How many dollars is between you guys and everyone staying in one or two Motel 6 rooms, anyway? I still can't go, but maybe I can throw some money Brian's way if it'll help keep you guys in a proper hotel room.
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: Mailorder May 29, 2007, 03:38:56 PM
I would go as far to say that it's guaranteed that I'm not going if we camp out.  I get diarrhea in the great outdoors.  If it really comes down to it, we're staying at my old place.  As long as I bring new bedsheets, it will be fine.  Trust me.

: Jaxx May 30, 2007, 07:22:55 AM
lol whatever, I'll be ready to go whenever....still don't know about the money thing though....=/.  I got some, but I gotta pay rent and my school tuition.  At least I'll have more than 20 bux this time...lol
: Re: Arizona Valley Thread - SUM TOP TIER SHIT ODAMN
: Mailorder May 30, 2007, 07:26:17 AM
If we have to stay in a motel, it doesn't have to be a Motel 6.  We can stay in one of the local-style motels.  They've got to be cheaper.

choco, sounds like you're all getting out of here on Friday, so I'll need to know whether you need help with funding by 3P tomorrow afternoon.

I can spare $60 or so. It's not a loan: Loaning money out is a good way to lose money and friends. It's pretty much thanks for your time and for hosting, but if it'll make you feel better, you can share your beer with me. Or your girlfriend, female relatives... I'm not picky.

I have about 100 dollars, if thats not enough, I'll pay whoever back I need to at the next get together or something. Let me know, and I will be on AIM all night Thursday, to ensure a time that I would be picked up and such.

Yo, Dan. Don't worry about funding. I have a job that apparently pays more than your does :P  I have enough credit AND cash to cover everyone's expenses for the trip, but we're just working out the cheapest way for us to get over there, stay a couple of nights, and get home safely. I don't need your money! Beer sharing is enough :D

Hope to see you the week after West Toast 4, too. You haven't been around much at all lately. Tried calling you last weekend but I instantly got your voice mail. So, until next weekend... AZ GONNA BE REPRESENTIN', YO.

Gotcha. I truly could have spared the money, tho- about the only good thing about living with one's parents is that you don't have much in the way of bills.  ;D

Yeah, my cell phone's dead. I need new batteries for it, but we don't have any in stock and the next purchasing season doesn't start until July. Ha, the one I had in it was for another model of cell phone. I had to tape it to the phone.

I'll PM you my home number.

I should get my own damn cell phone, but between the years I worked in phone support, all the times I answered my own phone to find that it was a telemarketer/fund raiser who'd called me, and my own hermit-like tendencies, I've come to hate the sound of a phone ringing. I associate phones with pain, frustration, and being trapped.

I'm still practicing MB, but I'm basically treading water. I can 1cc arcade mode on the highest difficulty level now, but this is more of a function of me figuring out the AI's foibles. There's just no substitute for playing against human beings.

If you need anything while I'm at work, sent me a PM on the forum and include your email address, or just email me at bhagen@godaddy.com

Quick copy and paste from WT4 thread: Update from AZ crew:

We will be leaving at 1 PM and arriving near LA around 7-8 PM. Who wants some GOD DAMN MATCHES AT ARCADE INFINITY? If there will be at least two people to play us there, we will stay there for a few hours no problem. Any hotel recommendations at the time would be nice, too. Cheap = good Tongue

But yeah. AZ crew leaving at 1 PM, getting to AI at 7-8 PM, going to stay at a hotel for the night (or if anyone is willing to house four guys for the night, we'd definitely welcome the offer and play Melty with you Tongue Maybe even some monies!), waking up, heading to Interface and chilling for a while or exploring the surrounding area. PM me if you don't mind people staying at your place Tongue Four people in all. Choco, Mailorder, ssjlonewolf, and Shashin.

Looking hella forward to seeing you guys and Sp00ky there!

I've been brushing up on my art skills and I've been working on a team banner/collage thingy for us.  Really, I'm just having an excuse to draw again.  Basically, I'm drawing the character you play as but with a special twist that defines you, or something you like.  Basically... think of DBR's (California Melee team) banner.  I was really inspired by theirs.  Here's what I have so far:

Choco - Satsuki, dressed as Rin from Fate/stay Night
Jaxx - Nero, as a Black guy with an afro
Mailorder - Mech Hisui, dressed as Satoko from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

That's about it.  If you don't tell me what you want, I'm gonna get creative and decide on my own.  Like Shashin's gonna be a picture of Len.  And Vmoney's gonna have Black Arcruid wearing those giant clown glasses that he loves.  Yeah, Jaxx and Vmoney have Black characters because they're two Black guys of Arizona.  I said it.

And start thinking of team names.  I still don't like Melty Club.  And sorry Jaxx, I don't really like Top Tier Garbage either.  Hopefully, we'll come up with a name we can all agree with.

Like "MAILORDER Hyper Genki Squad ^___^!!!"

And yes, you must have the "^___^!!!"

How goes, Q-Chu!

To tell the truth, I've played a lot less Guilty Gear than I've played Melty these past four weeks. As in, almost no Guilty Gear whatsoever. I'm kind of going through a Guilty Gear depression right now.  :'(

I'm still looking forward to receiving my copy of AC (which will be today, from the looks of the tracking info). I'm hoping its freshness will rekindle my enthusiasm for the game, and increase the incidence of GG session hosting in the valley.

So, uhm... how's yer ABA doing?

Good luck to everyone heading to WT. Hope you all have fun, and drive safely, now!

I want Len to be holding her hands together near her chin, and her looking down to the ground with that sort of saintly look upon her. Same position as Iris in Atelier Iris:Eternal Mana, during the opening movie, except she will be facing slightly to the right.

Burn meh a copy of AC if you get a chance Dan.

I would also love KoF XI from somebody who has it.....

I don't have a DVD burner, I'm afraid.  :(

Oh, and that reminds me: I had a dream last night that I'd received the package from Play-Asia, but when I opened the box, what I saw inside was not AC, but a copy of Katamari Damacy for the PS3.

I've decided I want the theme of the banner/collage to be cosplay.  Imagine who your MB character would cosplay as.  Brian already picks a Satsuki color that's Rin from Fate/stay night, so I think that's a fun idea to build on.

Me too, actually. For some reason, my friends don't want to play much anymore, and now that Accent Core is coming out / already out, I don't feel any desire to play. I need to get an imported copy of the game, because my ps2 is garbage and can't read burned games, despite being modded. Although I've improved slightly in Melty, my ABA's execution has become absolute shit, and I found myself messing up her BnB sometimes when I played a few days ago. I'm hoping Accent Core boosts my interest again, enough to build up a scene.

Haha, yeah. That's at the root cause of my Guilty Gear depression, too: Lack of opponents.

I saw some amazing stuff during Devastation, the kind of skill I imagine one can only get through frequently playing the game against other people. Where does this happen? When does this happen? How do I get in on it? I don't rightly know.  :mystery:

I always feel guilty (bah-hah) about the Guilty Gear games I sneak in at choco's, because I know damn well that choco isn't stuffing his apartment full of heat-generating people so they can play Guilty Gear.

"But wait, whiny one, there's #R!" Yes, but #R is not Slash. #R online is not Slash + input lag + network lag: All the things I hated about 3S on XBL, really. Now that AC is out, I'm even less interested in #R.

The valley Guilty Gear scene needs its own choco.  :-[  The lack of dedicated Guilty Gear hosts and the pain this has caused me is the reason why I'm so appreciative of what Brian's done with Melty Blood. What Robb's doing is awesome, too, but he's got MvC2, 3S, GG, and I don't know how many other sorts of game fans to juggle, and that whole life thing, besides.

Now that I'm confident of my job security, I plan to move out of my house in three to four months, probably as close to my job as I can get (Mesa, mebbe Tempe). My dream is to host Guilty Gear games every Saturday when this happens, or at least as many Saturdays as I can stand.

I can't host here, either.

The hell of it is, my parents probably would be OK with it, but I feel so pathetic about asking- having to ask- my parents if I can have people over, I just can't do it. :emo: I've never so much as had my friends from work over while I've lived here, for that very reason.

Nothing makes me feel quite so pathetic as being observed, in real time, living with my parents.
